Qualifications will include a Masters in Library Science degree from an accredited library school as well as substantial experience with AACR, LCSH, LC classification, MARC21, and library automated systems. Experience with emerging metadata schemes such as RDA, Dublin Core, MODS, MADS, METS, EAD, TEI, MARCXML and RDF is required, as well as knowledge of authority control systems, serials or digital resources cataloguing. Applicants must also possess a strong service orientation, the ability to work independently and as a team member in a dynamic environment, strong communication and organizational skills, aptitude for complex, analytical work with attention to detail, problem-solving skills, flexibility, the ability to prioritize work to ensure that departmental and Library goals are realized, and the ability to work effectively in a production-oriented environment. SUNY Potsdam was founded in 1816, and is deeply proud of its status as one of the 100 oldest continuously operating institutions of higher education in the United States. The College Archives and Special Collections at SUNY Potsdam represent the College's nearly 200 year history, and an enthusiastic and energetic College Archivist will play a key role in supporting the College's Bicentennial celebration due to begin in the fall of 2015. The run-up to the Bicentennial is expected to generate considerable interest and donations of college-related historical materials from alumni and friends of the College, requiring an agile and flexible approach to managing and accessioning new materials.
