Dr. Denise Agosto Receives ALISE Award for Teaching Excellence

Congratulations to Dr. Denise Agosto, associate professor at The iSchool at Drexel, College of Information Science and Technology who has won the prestigious 2011 ALISE Award for Teaching Excellence.

Dr. Agosto is responsible for teaching in four areas at The iSchool at Drexel: youth services, public libraries, information resources and services, and qualitative research methods. Courses she teaches include Library Programming, Public Library Service, Resources for Children, and Storytelling. Her research interests include youth information behaviors, public libraries, multicultural issues in youth library services, and qualitative research methods.

 ALISE selects one honoree in this category each year. Dr. Agosto was selected for showing evidence of sustained excellence in teaching library and information science; contributing to curriculum design and demonstrating subject expertise; acting as a mentor to students, alumni and/or practicing professionals; and use of effective and innovative teaching methods. Dr. Agosto will be recognized in January at the ALISE 2011 Conference in San Diego, CA.

Dr. Agosto also received the 2010 ASIS&T (American Association of Information Science & Technology) SIG USE Best Conference Paper Award at the organization's annual meeting. The winning paper is entitled "High School Seniors' Social Network and Other ICT Use Concerns." At the conference, she also served as a senior researcher and mentor for the 2010 ASIS&T Doctoral Seminar.
