  *Assistant** Museum** Collection Manager*

History Associates has an immediate need for an Assistant Collection Manager
to assist a Collection Manager in planning and implementing the move of an
extensive, nationally significant museum.



Work will include coordination and supervision of collection inventory
activities across five collection areas: anatomical, neuroanatomical, human
developmental anatomical, historical artifacts, and archives. The position
will involve working in a fast paced environment with teams consisting of
archivists, curators, scientists, object packers, and IT specialists. The
ideal candidate will be able to meet strict deadlines while achieving
accurate cataloging and accountability for the collections.



Educational Requirements

BA History

(Preference given to BA and/or MA History of Health and Medicine or related
focus)

MA Public History or Museum Studies

Minimum 3 years experience in museum registration and/or collections
management



General Requirements

 Ability to pass a National Agency Check

 Willingness to sign and adhere to a confidentiality agreement



Job Requirements

 Demonstrated knowledge of professional curatorial and museum standards and
practices.

 Knowledge of issues related to the handling, cataloging, management, and
preservation of anatomical and pathological specimens, medical equipment,
and historical objects and documents.

 Knowledge of issues related to large-scale moves of significant historical
collections.

 Demonstrated experience in using KE EMu, or a similar content management
system, to manage large museum collections.

 Ability to work as part of a high performance, diverse team of archivists,
curators, scientists, object packers, and IT specialists.

 Demonstrated project management and supervisory experience.

 Demonstrated ability to meet strict deadlines in a fast paced environment.

 Demonstrated strong written and verbal communication skills including the
ability to create concise reports and to effectively participate in and/or
lead team meetings.

 Tact and discretion.

 Ability to lift 40 lbs and climb ladders.

POSITION TITLE:  Intern (1 opening)



LOCATION: Sam Rayburn House Museum, 890 W. State Hwy 56, Bonham, Texas.



BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES: Interns may work on one or more of the
following projects: cataloging and researching the museum collection, taking
digital photographs of artifacts; recording oral histories; re-housing and
cleaning artifacts; data entry of collections records; assisting with guided
tours of the house museum; assist with inventory of collection; assist in
the development of events and programming at the site as well as developing
themed  guided tours and presentations; and organizing site resources.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:  Interest in museums, history, and/or education.
Strong writing, research and communications skills.  Strong organizational,
multitasking and people skills.  Knowledge of American and Texas history.
Knowledge of standard office computer skills, including database software
and word processing.  Ability to work independently and on detailed tasks.
Degree or expected degree in history, education, museum studies, humanities
or a related field.  Demonstrated interest in museum programs, education
and/or history.

 WORK SCHEDULE: Monday-Friday (negotiable)

Two Senior Positions in Education
The Newark Museum, Newark, NJ

For our long-term client, The Newark Museum, Thomas & Associates, Inc., is

education: Director for Innovation & Learning; and Senior Manager for School

*Director for Innovation & Learning*
Working closely with and reporting directly to the Deputy Director for
Education, the Director for Innovation & Learning conducts, publishes and
presents research in learning theory, program evaluation and impact analysis
as it relates to Newark Museum programming; supervises Educational
Department staff; coordinates ongoing assessment and evaluations of all
educational programs; and insures that established goals are met.  The
position also oversees the public availability of educational resources,
including online digital resources, printed matter, the Museum’s teaching
collection and other related materials.  This position is a leadership role
requiring a dynamic and committed education professional with the ability to
inspire staff in the creation of innovative and effective educational
experiences for local communities and beyond.

The ideal candidate will have a graduate degree in museum education; seven
years progressive and successful experience in the development,
implementation and evaluation of museum educational programming; specific
experience in developing educational resources related to museum
collections; comprehensive knowledge of current educational practices,
procedures and studies as relates specifically to arts & culture initiatives
and organizations; highly developed leadership, managerial and
communications skills; excellent collaborative and community outreach
experience; familiarity with new media; experience with grant-writing and
budget management; and the ability to bring creativity and critical thinking
to a fast-paced working environment. The candidate must possess a strong
belief in the primacy of education as well as the ability to communicate and
work with the museum as an organizational whole.

*Senior Manager for School & Teacher Programs*
Reporting to the Director for Innovation & Learning, the Senior Manager for
School & Teacher Programs is responsible for the success of the museum’s
service to schools and teachers, including high-quality art and natural
science programs for students pre-K through 12th grade and their teachers.
The position oversees the development, implementation and evaluation of
these programs and establishes new and innovative programs that are relevant
to and supportive of the schools’ educational goals.

The ideal candidate will have a graduate degree in museum education or
related; 5 years of progressive and successful experience in the
development, implementation and evaluation of school and teacher services in
a museum; experience working with urban schools; extensive knowledge of
current education reform and policies, especially as relates to arts &
culture; outstanding collaborative and communications experience, with
demonstrated ability to work with a diverse range of individuals and
organizations; grant-writing and budget management experience; and the
ability to manage human capital, meet deadlines and flourish in a fast-paced
working environment.

The Hastings Museum of Natural and Cultural History in Hastings, Nebraska
seeks applicants specializing in exhibits and collections for a 6 month
internship to begin in early 2010. [Time frame to be determined with
selected individual's schedule.  The internship is to be completed by
September 30th, 2011.]   The intern will work with the museum's Curator of
Collections and Curator of Exhibits.  The individual will have access to the
collections and research facilities, participate in the development of the
summer in-house exhibit and participate fully with the museum staff.

Working in consultation with the Curator of Collections, the intern will
assist in Collection Management projects such as: re-housing, re-locating
and the photographing artifacts; data entry; research; artifact handling and
display.

When working with the Curator of Exhibits the intern will assist in graphic
design, exhibit label writing, mounting digital prints, mounting and cutting
exhibit labels, desktop publishing and/or computer illustrating using
applications such as Illustrator, Adobe Photo Shop, and In Design.  Tasks
may also include building, painting, staining, and fabricating custom mounts
and brackets. Other projects that contribute to the museum's education and
marketing programs are encouraged.

Candidates will have completed courses towards a master's degree in museum
studies, with an emphasis in museum exhibits and/or collections and a
bachelor's degree in History, Anthropology, Natural Sciences or related
field.  Candidates must be able to work in a group and individually, have
strong organizational skills and demonstrate a strong interest in a museum
career.
