Overview
The Herman T. Pott National Inland
Waterways Library Curator reports to the Executive Director of the St.
Louis Mercantile Library at the University of Missouri-St. Louis and is
responsible for in-depth patron and collection research, selection of
books, materials and objects for the collection, assistance in
developing and implementing library policies, and donor relations.
Qualifications
Required:
An MLS from an ALA accredited institution; excellent written skills,
and interpersonal communication skills. Preferred: At least one year of
experience in a special collections library, preferably in the fields of
transportation or history; a Bachelor's degree in English.
Duties
*Provide in-depth patron reference services, collection
research, and tours to students, staff, and patrons in person, and via
phone and internet.
*Facilitate usage by collection organization;
create and update online and print finding aids and collection access
for river research and library collections. Process and maintain object,
archival materials, and book collections.
*Supervision of The
Waterways Journal indexing project.
*Develop the collection
through acquisition of current and out-of-print books, periodicals, and
pamphlets. Advise on collection care and preservation.
*Advise, in
coordination with the Libraries Technical Services Department, on
shelving, binding, and access services related to the book, periodical,
and pamphlet collections. Coordinate with the Art Collection Curator the
display, rotation, and signage of relevant art, objects, and special
exhibitions.
*Supervision of volunteers for special projects.
*Participate
in grant writing, donor and advisory board relations and fund-raising
work.
*Provide community outreach and educational programming from
academic support, to continuing education.
Ranking and Salary: Librarian I; $34,000 per year.

JOB ANNOUNCEMENT: Media Librarian
Long Island University / Brooklyn Campus Library
The library at Long Island University’s Brooklyn Campus serves a multicultural community of users and provides extensive access to print and electronic resources in the humanities and social sciences, with special emphasis on the health sciences in general, and pharmacy and nursing in particular.
Description: This is a tenure-track position. The Media Librarian is responsible for evaluating, managing, and promoting the multimedia collection to support curricular needs. Duties include supervision and training of clerical staff and student assistants, coverage of the service desk, and development of the center’s collection. The Media Librarian provides media-related library instruction sessions and assistance to users and participates in planning, collection development, outcomes assessment, committees, and professional development. Some evening and weekend shifts are required, as is occasional reference desk coverage.
Qualifications : The successful candidate will demonstrate knowledge of film and mass media history and maintain an interest in contemporary trends in media and related areas. S/he will have experience with media content in a variety of formats in an online environment and will be knowledgeable regarding evolving technologies in the digital media field.
Requirements: ALA-accredited MLS degree, 30 additional graduate credits, and three–four years’ experience in providing media-related library services. The successful candidate will have excellent communication and collaborative skills, will work both independently and in a team environment, and will train staff in library applications.
Preferred: Second Master’s degree in a relevant subject area and experience in an academic library setting are highly desirable.

Description: This is a tenure-track position. The Serials/Database Coordinator is responsible for evaluating, managing, and promoting the collection of print and electronic serials and databases. Duties include supervising the periodicals department including coverage of the periodicals service desk, training clerical staff and student assistants, and compiling statistical data on usage, as well as occasional reference desk service and library instruction. The successful candidate will demonstrate a commitment to user-centered service and will participate in planning, collection development, outcomes assessment, committees, and professional development.
Qualifications: The successful candidate will have experience in selecting database products, will be familiar with serials-related technologies used to provide access to databases and electronic resources, will have experience with serials control in an integrated system environment, and will be knowledgeable regarding the serials and database marketplaces.

LIBRARIAN III (ASSISTANT DIRECTOR FOR RESEARCH SERVICES) (Salary commensurate with experience and qualifications). Fondren Library Center at Southern Methodist
University seeks a strong, creative and energetic leader to serve as Assistant Director for Research Services. The Assistant Director will provide leadership and expertise
in developing programs for effective and innovative delivery of reference services and instruction. The position directly supervises six professional subject specialists
who provide collection development, reference and instructional services for academic departments, as well as one support staff. He/she will also manage Fondren Library
reference services provided by a cross-divisional team of professional librarians, support staff and student assistants. In addition, the Assistant Director will provide
leadership in implementing the information literacy requirement of the new University Curriculum. The position reports to the Director of Scholarly Resources and Research
Services for Central University Libraries. Primary duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to: organizing and managing of reference services; designing
new reference initiatives in response to the changing information-seeking behavior of users; providing leadership for the vision, implementation, promotion, and assessment
of the library instruction program; collaborating with faculty and library subject specialists to articulate information literacy curriculum objectives and assess student
learning outcomes; promoting the visibility and use of reference and instructional services to the wider university community; creating and maintaining records, reports and
statistics; participating in providing reference service, including occasional nights and weekends; serving as subject liaison to selected academic departments in the
humanities, social sciences or sciences, depending upon education, experience and expertise; supervising and encouraging professional development, as well as evaluating the
performance of direct reports; serving on library and university committees; and other duties as assigned.
Master's degree in library science from an ALA-accredited institution is required. A minimum of five years' post graduate library work experience in public services (e.g.
Reference, Circulation, User Education, Instruction) is required.
Work experience in a progressively responsible role is essential. Experience supervising a professional staff within a library is required. Library experience in an academic
institution is strongly preferred.
Candidates must have experience and the ability to provide effective user education instruction. A strong knowledge and understanding of information literacy and reference
best practices, current issues, and trends is essential. Candidates must possess a strong proficiency using computer based technology and ability to adapt to new
technologies. Candidates must possess strong leadership and management skills with the ability to lead a team. Candidates must possess strong organizational and project
management skills to effectively develop plans, set goals, prioritize and meet deadlines. Must also possess strong problem solving skills with the ability evaluate and
develop effective solutions. Candidates must demonstrate strong interpersonal and verbal communication skills with the ability to interact with a wide range of
