Western Carolina University's Hunter Library seeks a Serials Librarian to
provide leadership and professional expertise in the selection, acquisition,
assessment and deselection of print and electronic continuing resources. The
position will establish overall priorities for the library collections
budget in cooperation with the Collection
Development Librarian and the Head of Content Organization and Management
and be responsible for the ongoing expenditure and maintenance of the
continuing resources budget. The position will develop continuing resources
collections in close cooperation with library subject specialists and
teaching faculty. Other responsibilities include supervising two full-time
and one half-time staff members; coordinating ordering, payment, receipt,
and holdings maintenance of continuing resources; and collaborating with the
Western North Carolina Library Network on continuing resources issues. The
successful candidate will be professionally engaged, forward-thinking,
collegial, and demonstrate the ability to initiate and complete projects in
a timely and independent manner.
     This twelve month, tenure-track position reports to the Department Head
for Content Organization and Management. Library faculty are highly engaged
in library planning and policy-making.

About the University:Western Carolina University is one of the 16 senior

About the Library:Hunter Library has a long, respected record of providing
excellent service to the university and region. The library is dedicated to
the thoughtful integration of print and digital resources and to supporting
and developing the general, information, digital, graphic, and visual
literacy of students and the teaching and research needs of faculty and
staff. The library has 19 tenure track faculty members, 30 staff members,
and an annual budget of approximately $4.5 million. The library contains
approximately 800,000 print and electronic volumes and provides access to
more than 45,000 journals through print subscriptions and electronic
databases. The library is an active partner in the Western North Carolina
Library Network and participates in the Carolina Consortium.

Salary and Benefits :Salary and rank are commensurate with qualifications.
Salary Range: $40,000-$55,000. This is a twelve month, tenure-track position
with a generous 24 days of vacation leave annually.

Minimum Training & Experience Requirements :MLS from an ALA accredited
program; demonstrated mastery (through experience or coursework) of current
continuing resources concepts, trends and practices; excellent interpersonal
and communication skills; strong analytic and problem-solving skills;
ability to work collaboratively with colleagues; potential to meet the
library's requirement for scholarship and service.

Preferred Qualifications :Experience with: managing continuing resources in
an academic library; budget administration; creating, interpreting, and
analyzing data and reports for use in collection management decision making;
working with publishers, vendors and subscription agents; III Millennium;
EBSCO's suite of serials management products; negotiation of license
agreements; and consortial purchasing arrangements. Supervisory experience.
Familiarity with the serials industry, collection development and scholarly
communication issues and current library technologies.

*Overview*
The Herman T. Pott National Inland Waterways Library Curator reports to the
Executive Director of the St. Louis Mercantile Library at the University of
Missouri-St. Louis and is responsible for in-depth patron and collection
research, selection of books, materials and objects for the collection,
assistance in developing and implementing library policies, and donor
relations.

*Qualifications*
Required: An MLS from an ALA accredited institution; excellent written
skills, and interpersonal communication skills. Preferred: At least one year
of experience in a special collections library, preferably in the fields of
transportation or history; a Bachelor's degree in English.

Duties
*Provide in-depth patron reference services, collection research, and tours
to students, staff, and patrons in person, and via phone and internet.

print finding aids and collection access for river research and library
collections. Process and maintain object, archival materials, and book
collections.
*Supervision of *The Waterways Journal* indexing project.
*Develop the collection through acquisition of current and out-of-print
books, periodicals, and pamphlets. Advise on collection care and
preservation.
*Advise, in coordination with the Libraries Technical Services Department,
on shelving, binding, and access services related to the book, periodical,
and pamphlet collections. Coordinate with the Art Collection Curator the
display, rotation, and signage of relevant art, objects, and special
exhibitions.
*Supervision of volunteers for special projects.
*Participate in grant writing, donor and advisory board relations and
fund-raising work.
*Provide community outreach and educational programming from academic
support, to continuing education.

*Ranking and Salary:* Librarian I; $34,000 per year.

Assistant Director for Research Services. The Assistant Director will
provide leadership and expertise

in developing programs for effective and innovative delivery of

six professional subject specialists
who provide collection development, reference and instructional
services for academic departments, as well as one support staff.
He/she will also manage Fondren Library

reference services provided by a cross-divisional team of professional

leadership in implementing the information literacy requirement of the
new University Curriculum. The position reports to the Director of

Services for Central University Libraries. Primary duties and
responsibilities include, but are not limited to: organizing and

new reference initiatives in response to the changing
information-seeking behavior of users; providing leadership for the

library subject specialists to articulate information literacy

preservation. Anyone know of organizations/archives/for profit companies
that regularly take on interns in this area?

* New York Women in Film and Television (NYWIFT) has partnered with the
Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) in NYC on a project called the film preservation
fund. Each year a film is selected and a team assembled to restore the film,
which upon completion is given an industry screening.
NYWIFT's Executive Director is Terry Lawler. ([log in to unmask]) I've known
her since 2006, when I served as a special events intern for the
organization.

* Try the George Eastman House in Rochester NY. Also check out the Film
Foundation as a resource, their preserved films list may be a good place to
look for ideas.

* You might want to the contact the Wolfson Moving Image Archives (
http://www.mdc.edu/wolfsonarchives/) based out of the Miami Dade Public
Library – Main Branch.  I understand they are always looking for interns in
this area.
