Subject: [archives] Update: Position Openings (3)--Yellowstone National Park

Due to an error in the template portion of the original announcement
(a missing sentence and

an "or" where an "and" was supposed to be urgh!)), the announcement
for the 3 archivist positions
has been reaanounced and the closing date extended to December 23,
2010. Everyone who has
already applied should be notified individually with instructions on
how to proceed by the Office

of Personnel Management--I have yet to see any applications and
wouldn't have until a much later
stage in the process, in any case. I suspect, though, that the
notification may be a bit
confusing for those unused to the federal hiring process:

Unfortunately, you have to reapply in order for your application to be
linked to the new
announcement number. It shouldn't take too long to simply attach your
already uploaded resume
and any additional documentation to the new announcement number. (Darn
it, I'm really excited

about tackling the backlog, can't wait to get some new folks on board,
and this is slowing me
down!) And if you missed applying the first time--you now have until
December 23rd to do so
(Yay, a plus!). The new announcement number is: CK418581YP.

The status and nature of the position hasn't changed, it's just a
technicality that the OPM
says is necessary to validate the search (double urgh!).

Here's the original information, in case you missed it the first time (updated):

Yellowstone National Park has position openings for three full-time,
term-funded project
archivists to work in our Heritage and Research Center located at the
north entrance of the
Park in Gardiner, Montana.

The successful candidates will be responsible for processing complex

collections of personal papers and historical records: appraising,
arranging, preserving, describing through written finding aids, and
cataloging the collections into a collection management system and shared

library catalog. The archivists will also survey and reappraise

collections, conducting research into provenance and making recommendations
for retention, processing, and preservation.

The full position announcement is posted on USAJOBS (www.usajobs.gov). It

is open for applicants through December 23, 2010. The announcement number
is: CK418581YP. You can also find the announcement by searching on the job
title (archivist) and/or the geographic location (Gardiner, MT).

Please let potential candidates know about this opportunity. (I can
currently see a small herd of elk and three bison out my office
window--it's truly an amazing place to work!)
