Why is it weird?  it's Facebook not a university department page, I like that there are people from a global scale on it seeking answers and advice.   its mirrors in some ways many LIS listservs that exist but on FB you interact in different ways and can visualize people with pictures as well as comments/discussion forums. 

It's good to see/hear all treatments , many that most may not even be aware of as educators or practicing librarians in the field.  Sharing information is what we need to do more of, not less.....just some random thoughts on your question.  People seek answers, if it's not out there, how are they supposed to find it?

in poking around, and found it a downright weird treatment of an academic discipline.  At least I thought it was.
