Friends of school librarians,

Digital textbooks seems to be an inevitability. Across the nation, state and local education officials are turning to digital content as a cost-effective alternative to bulky, time-constrained traditional textbooks.

School librarians should be armed with the knowledge they need to speak fluently about the digital textbook issue and be central in the selection and use of digital content in learning.

A new White Paper, From Paper to Pixel: Digital Textbooks in Florida Schools, by the Partnerships Advancing Library Media (PALM) Center at the Florida State University, explores the benefits and challenges of digital textbooks and offers strategies for school librarians in any state to get involved in meaningful, supportive ways.

Download the White Paper from the PALM site: http://palmcenter.fsu.edu/

and be sure to get its companion White Paper, too: From District to Desktop: Making the Most of Broadband in Florida Schools at http://palmcenter.fsu.edu/documents/digitaltextbooks_whitepaper.pdf
This White Paper addresses the importance of adequate bandwidth for learning and ways in which school librarians can make best use of their resources and expertise to leverage schools' Internet capacity.

We welcome your comments and questions.

Enjoy!
