POSITION BEGINNING JANUARY 2011. THE SUCCESSFUL CANDIDATE MUST HAVE A 
COMMITMENT TO THE ACADEMIC PROCESS, TO EXCELLENCE IN RESEARCH, 
EDUCATION, AND SERVICE AND TO DIVERSITY IN THE COMMUNITY. THE SCHOOL 
OF LIBRARY AND INFORMATION SCIENCES WAS ORGANIZED AS A PROFESSIONAL 
SCHOOL IN 1941, AND ITS MASTER'S PROGRAM IN LIBRARY SCIENCE HAS BEEN 
ACCREDITED BY THE AMERICAN LIBRARY ASSOCIATION SINCE 1975. THE SCHOOL 
ALSO OFFERS THE MASTER OF INFORMATION SCIENCE, THE JOINT MIS/MBA AND

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities 
THE CANDIDATE MUST HAVE A DESIRE TO PARTICIPATE IN STUDENT ACADEMIC 
ADVISING, CURRICULUM DEVELOPMENT, DEPARTMENTAL AND UNIVERSITY 
COMMITTEES, AND PROFESSIONAL ORGANIZATIONS. TEACHING SCHEDULE WILL 
INCLUDE EVENING AND WEEKEND ASSIGNMENTS. CANDIDATES ARE SOUGHT 
IN THE FOLLOWING AREAS: CHILDREN'S RESOURCES AND SERVICES; ADOLESCENT 
RESOURCES AND SERVICES; CHILDREN'S AND YOUNG ADULT COLLECTION 
DEVELOPMENT; YOUNG ADULT LITERATURE; ETHNIC COLLECTION DEVELOPMENT, 
INCLUDING AFRICAN AMERICAN HISTORY AND LITERATURE; CENSORSHIP; 
JUVENILE DEVELOPMENT AND PERFORMANCE-BASED EDUCATION. MUST 
BE ABLE TO WORK IN A TEAM ENVIRONMENT. 
MANAGEMENT PREFERS CANDIDATE WITH KNOWLEDGE OF MENTORING, GRANTS 
WRITING AND MANAGEMENT; COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT; AND ADVOCACY FOR 
LIBRARIES AND OTHER INFORMATION AGENCIES.
Training and Experience Requirements 
PH.D IN LIBRARY SCIENCE, INFORMATION SCIENCE OR A RELATED FIELD IS 
REQUIRED AS WELL AS EXPERIENCE IN STUDENT DEVELOPMENT (RECRUITMENT 
AND/OR PLACEMENT).
