The Fashion Institute of Technology (FIT), an internationally renowned
college of art and design, business and technology of the State University
of New York, invites applications for the position of Assistant Museum
Registrar.

*Job Description:*
Reporting to the Museum Registrar, the Assistant Registrar performs duties
of a complex and confidential nature in support of the Registrar and the
Museum's collections management, exhibition, and loan activities. The
Assistant Museum Registrar is responsible for managing multiple projects
simultaneously in a fast paced office, while maintaining close attention to
detail.
    The Assistant Registrar plays a central role in maintenance of the
Museum's object database, including improvement of record content, object
documentation and location tracking. The position is responsible for
generating legal documents, such as deeds of gift and thank you letters, and
other database reports.
    The Assistant Registrar works with Associate Registrar and Assistant
Collections Manager to conduct ongoing inventory of the Museum's permanent
collection and inventory lists for temporary exhibitions. The Assistant
Registrar works with Museum staff to resolve discrepancies found during
inventory and assists with relocating and re-labeling objects in the
collection. The position assists with other collections management projects
as needed.
    The Assistant Registrar corresponds with prospective donors, maintains a
tracking list of potential donations, and confers with Museum staff
regarding incoming donations and follow-up. The Assistant Registrar works
with the Associate Registrar to transport new acquisitions to the Museum and
to organize prospective acquisitions review meetings.
    The Assistant Registrar supports general functioning of the Registrar's
Office, including preparation and processing of purchase requisitions for
supplies and travel expenses using FIT's electronic purchasing system
(Bi-Tech). The position also maintains the department budget and related
financial records.
    The Assistant Registrar assists with project planning for and oversight
of work-study student or interns. Other duties as required.

*Requirements:*
Bachelors Degree, Masters preferred, plus a minimum of one year experience
in museum registration or collections management. Candidate must be
organized and have excellent written and oral communication skills. Strong
computer skills are required, including experience with TMS or other museum
collections management database. Experience handling museum objects is
required. Candidate must be comfortable with working on detailed projects at
fast pace.

JOB SUMMARY:  The Museum Registrar focuses heavily on curatorial
duties relating to collections management, acquisition, research,
interpretation, and exhibition.  You will be responsible for
documenting the accession and deaccession of artifacts into and out of
the museum collection; creating and maintaining legal documents
related to objects in the collection; and preserving the collection
and ensuring that all objects receive proper care.  The successful
candidate also makes sure that the public has meaningful access to the
collection through exhibits and programs, and provides highly
responsible assistance to the Cultural Services Division Manager.

  This position requires excellent public speaking and other related
skills needed to elicit community and organizational support for
various museum programs, the ability to operate the museum’s
(FileMaker Pro) and other automated collections management software,
and knowledge of the principles and procedures of a museum’s
collections program.

REGULAR

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:  Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college
or university with major course work in art, history, anthropology,
museum studies or a related field.  Four years of museum collection
and registration experience including two years of administrative or
lead responsibility.

DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS:  Graduate degree from an accredited college
or university with major coursework in history, art history,
anthropology, or museum studies.  Two or more years of curatorial
experience including donor relations, exhibition development, and
collections planning.  Working knowledge of XSLT and the reference
materials needed to publish Internet pages using this code.

Job Description : The Director for the Center for Popular Music will report
to the Dean of the College of Communications. The Director's primary
responsibilities are; provide vision for and administration of the Center as
it works toward its mission of promoting research and scholarship in
American vernacular music, fostering an understanding and appreciation of
the nation's diverse musical culture, and supporting the educational
programs of the University. The Director is responsible for the
administrative leadership and promotion of the Center; will coordinate the

and international levels; maintain a professional profile at the national

*Specific Responsibilities:
*·     Verifies or enters accession and donor information on each object in
the collection into the Museum’s collection software program *PastPerfect*.
·         Physically locates each object in the collection that is being
processed.
·         Correlates all items with the correct paper and database
files.  If the files do not exist, creates them.
·         Ensures all objects are properly marked (following museum
standards) with old and new accession/library numbers.  If missing,
determines the correct number and properly marks.
·         Digitally photographs or scans each object and adds images to the
Museum’s software program *PastPerfect*.
·         Updates donor information and condition reports for each book
placed in *PastPerfect*.
·         Improves storage conditions where practical and notes storage
location for each object in *PastPerfect*.
·         Must have the ability to lift and move objects weighing up to 40
pounds and to climb a ladder.



*Experience Requirements:  *Individuals considered for the grant position
will be required to have a Bachelor’s Degree or Master's Degree in Museum
Studies, History, or Library Science.  Candidates must have a basic
understanding of collections management practices, be computer literate, and
have knowledge of *PastPerfect*.  The experienced or trained IPT will enter
description data and perform the digital photography and scanning into *
PastPerfect*.



Also, a* 9-month commitmen*t to living in Kirksville or the surrounding area
is required while on staff with this project.  Moving expenses will not be
covered by the University or grant.    $9.84 per hour plus benefits

The SFCMC is pleased to announce that our term Archives Technician

     The incumbent serves as an archives technician at the South
Florida Collections Management Center (SFCMC), which manages the
museum collections for Big Cypress National Preserve, Biscayne
National Park, De Soto National Memorial, Dry Tortugas National Park
and Everglades National Park.  Combined, these five south Florida
parks have archival collections in excess of 3.6 million items.  The
incumbent will serve as part of a project team working to address the
backlog of uncataloged archives.  The

   position is supervised by the SFCMC project archivist.  The
incumbent utilizes professional archives principles and techniques to
catalog and rehouse historical and resource management documents,
photographs, and other media.  Under direct supervision of the project
archivist, the incumbent carries out processing, arrangement and
description of archival  collections, conducts preservation rehousing
and assesses collection condition.  The technician prepares processing
plans, catalog records, and finding aids, among other documents.
Other responsibilities include using the Interior Collections
Management System (ICMS), including the archives module to catalog
records and finding aids.

Length of Service:
This full-time internship is for a period of twelve months  (January
2011 through December 2011). Starting date is flexible, preferably
between January 1 and February 1, 2011.

Compensation: The Docent development internship pays $1700.00 per
month.  Compensation for this internship does not include any benefits
as funding is through the Museum’s support organization.  University
credit is available when applicable.

Responsibilities and Duties: The graduate intern will, under direction
of the Curator of Education:

Art.

Length of Service: This full-time internship is for a period of twelve
months  (January 2011 through December 2011). Starting date is
flexible, preferably between January 1 and February 1, 2011.

Compensation: The Diamond M Gallery internship pays $1700.00 per month
and benefits as applicable.  University credit is available when
applicable.

Responsibilities and Duties: The graduate intern will, under direction
of the Curator of Education:
- Work in collaboration with interested stakeholders and Museum staff
in selecting, refining, and completing all materials in this project.

- Identify activities that are age appropriate for inclusion in lesson
plans targeted to specific ages.
- Author three lesson plans for each targeted grade level (i.e.,
elementary, middle school, high school)
- Author a tour outline for each targeted grade level (i.e.,
elementary, middle school, high school).

- Author a Learning Guide suitable for diverse grade levels
- Write and compile the text for the creation of “gallery cards” that
accompany images of selected works of art from the Diamond M
collection.

- Assist with improvements to traveling trunks.
- Assist in the design and preparation of materials, games, and other
activities to enhance  traveling and permanent exhibitions.
- Assist with visitor service (such as registration for classes,
answering phones, helping at public events, answering questions).

- Assist with other division activities as assigned.

Qualifications:
- Understanding of and familiarity with non-formal education, and,
interactive teaching theory and methods;
- Excellent interpersonal and written communication skills;

- Strong organization and research skills;
- Ability to work simultaneously on multiple, diverse tasks, with
overlapping  deadlines. Ability to request help when needed.
- Self-motivation to achieve goals and to complete assignments, either
individually and/or with others.
