Sno-Isle Libraries is looking for an innovative person eager to work closely with our motivated teen population and provide excellent information and readers’ advisory services to all ages. This librarian position will demonstrate strong partnerships with schools and other youth-serving agencies.

 

The successful candidate for this position will demonstrate knowledge of teen culture and technologies; judgment when using reference databases and print resources; flexibility in trying new approaches to customer service; and enthusiasm when promoting library programs and initiatives.

 

This position may include morning, afternoon, evening and weekend hours including Sundays and may required to adapt to future schedule and location changes depending on library needs.

 

Provide general readers’ advisory and reference services; assist customers with library facilities and services

Develop and present programs to teens and adults. This may include promoting library services through presentations at schools and to other community groups.

Assist in development of materials collection through assessment and interpretation of customer interests and analysis of review publications; includes maintenance of assigned collections.

Maintain and develop reference materials and sources

Explain and demonstrate procedures and methods for bibliographic and reference searches

Explain and assist with usage of library facilities, equipment, rules and service which may include written and verbal instruction and/or training of customers and staff

May be in charge of the building in the absence of the manager

 

Requires competent knowledge of library materials; Library District policies and procedures; integrated library computer systems, electronic resources, materials selection process; readers’ advisory; bibliographic search techniques and reference tools.

Requires the ability to use a bar code reader, computer equipment, Internet and standard office equipment; speak, understand and write English clearly and concisely; conduct reference interviews; work cooperatively and maintain favorable relations with the public and co-workers. Ability to speak and understand Spanish is desirable.

 

Requires a Masters degree in Library Information Science from an ALA-accredited college or university plus two years experience preferred as a professional librarian and have or be able to obtain a Washington State Librarian certificate upon employment.

This Web Developer I position will work with a dynamic team to design, build and maintain basic web-based applications using a variety of web development techniques and tools to support the organization’s strategies and goals. The position may include morning, afternoon, evening, and weekend hours including Sundays.

 

§ Work with Content Access Manager, Web Developer II and other staff or consultants to achieve web designs.

§ Program and administer content of mobile website.

§ Support district-wide community libraries and other departmental web site needs.

§ Work with other team members to develop and support services associated with end-user web content creation.

§ Participate in planning and conducting of ongoing usability studies.

§ Develop and support infrastructure for dynamic content database interfaces, content web applications and forms based data collection.

§ Review and test pages developed by others as required; promote the use of design standards for web pages.

§ Provide user support on the use of web authoring tools and applications; provide general PC support, hardware/software installations as needed throughout the Library District.

§ Field technical support phone calls and emails from end-user library customers relating to compatibility and/or usage issues.

 

Qualified candidates must have knowledge of or a desire to learn: social networks, cloud based computing, mobile design and development, current usability practice. Basic knowledge of library district policies and procedures is desirable. Must be able to speak, understand, read and write English clearly and concisely; work cooperatively and maintain favorable relations with the public and co-workers.

 

Desirable qualifications include competent knowledge of network theory and best-practices, Internet protocols, programming languages, project management, web languages such as HTML, XML, Coldfusion, JavaScript, Common Gateway Interface (CGI), SQL, Perl, PHP and (UX) User Experience; graphic layout and alteration; and narrative composition; UNIX/Linux/Windows operating systems and applications; Library District policies and procedures.

 

These skills and abilities typically are acquired through a degree in computer science or equivalent combination of 1-3 years experience and training, including specialized training in web site design, programming and maintenance.
