Thanksgiving Safety InformationThe UT Police Department and the UT Parking and Transit Services encourage students who must leave their vehicles unattended on the UT Campus over the Thanksgiving break to park in a well-lit area. If your student leaves his/her vehicle on campus over break, they should remove all valuables from their vehicle. Simply storing the items in their vehicle 'out of sight' is not encouraged. Valuables include backpacks, purses, electronics (including GPS systems), and textbooks to name a few. The UT Police Department typically receives an increase in reports of theft involving these items yearly in November. Lighting will not be reduced in any of the parking areas over the 2010 UT Thanksgiving Holiday. 106 UT Students Receive Scholarships for Study AbroadThe Center for International Education (CIE) at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, has awarded scholarships to 106 students who will be studying abroad during spring break and during the spring semester. Six students have received $500 to study abroad during spring break; another 100 have received $1,000 scholarships to study abroad during the spring semester. All of these CIE scholarships are funded by the $10-per-year fee that undergraduates pay. Proposed by the Student Government Association and approved by the Board of Trustees, the fee went into effect in the fall of 2008. Click here to see the recipients.
