Dr. Susan Davis Recognized at National Distance Learning Week Awards Ceremony

Dr. Susan Davis, iSchool Associate Teaching Professor, has been selected as a 2010 Drexel University Outstanding Online Instructor. She received recognition for her commitment to teaching during National Distance Learning Week (November 8-12, 2010).  This honor recognizes individuals who have made a significant contribution to the field of distance or online learning.

“Online education creates bridges between the classroom and the real world and among classmates scattered around the globe,” said Dr. Davis.  “The instructor can use the students’ diverse experiences to expand and reinforce course concepts.”

The iSchool nominated Dr. Davis because of her innovative teaching techniques in online courses, which include a video tour of the University Archives and wiki discussion boards. Dr. Davis is described by her students as outstanding, inspiring, and passionate, and student feedback indicates that she makes them feel connected in an online environment, that her courses are well designed, and that she understands and overcomes the challenges of an online program in archival education.

Dr. Davis designed the iSchool’s popular concentration within the Master of Science Library and Information Science program in Archival Studies, and developed, coordinates, and teaches four courses within the concentration. Dr. Davis’s research focuses on archival management and education as well as professional leadership and standards development. She has been an archival educator for many years and is a Fellow of the Society of American Archivists. In addition to her academic career, she managed archival programs in research libraries and state archives and served in numerous positions within professional archival associations.

NDLW is an annual initiative that generates greater awareness and appreciation for distance learning within the areas of pre-k through 12 education, higher and continuing education, home-schooling, as well as business, corporate, military, government and telehealth markets.
