Blackboard Contract Renewal
The current UTK/Blackboard contract for Course Management Systems is
set to expire on April 30, 2011. In keeping with current fiscal
policies, a formal Request for Proposal (RFP) process has been
initiated, and the competitive procurement process is in full swing.
As part of the process, University Purchasing has arranged for three
competing vendors to visit campus to provide product demonstrations on
Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday of next week. All three vendors have
provided formal proposals for consideration in the procurement
process. All interested faculty, staff, and students are welcome to
attend any of the open sessions.

Vendor Product Demonstrations
All demonstrations will be held in the Practice Presentation Room in
the Commons of Hodges Library.

OIT and Faculty Exchanged Ideas
at the Faculty Meet and Greet

Almost 60 faculty and staff visited haunted Hoskins on Friday, Oct 29
for the OIT Faculty Meet & Greet. They learned about the many
teaching, learning, and research services available to them from the
Office of Information Technology.

Comments included:
Thanks for putting this together! It was highly informative, and I'm
going to use more of your services in the future!
I had a lot of fun and learned a lot.
Thanks for this event.

Attend the Clicker Technology Roundtable
Veteran and novice clicker instructors, as well as those who are
"ready to get started," are invited to come and express your comments,
concerns, or curiosity at an end-of-semester roundtable discussion.
There will be Q&A, demos, and new feature highlights.

OIT and Turning Technologies will sponsor the event on Wednesday,
December 1 from 11:30am-1pm in the Hodges Library Practice
Presentation Room. Lunch will be provided. For more information,
contact Dr. Christina Goode at 974-6470 or [log in to unmask]

Join us for the November 29
Community of Practice Lunch
At our November 1 lunch, we had an open forum discussion on several
topics. Participants considered the benefits of SharePoint software,
and discussed at length the gap perceived by faculty between students'
knowledge of technology and its appropriate application.

Join us for the next lunch on
Mon, November 29 from
12:15 - 1:15pm in Hoskins 191.

For more information, or to be added to the IT CoP mailing list,
contact Gina Phipps at [log in to unmask] or 974-7912.

Don't get hooked by a Phishing expedition
Phishing continues to be a problem at the University as Internet
scammers get increasingly better at their craft.

However, there are simple things
you can do to protect yourself:
Never give your password
or financial information away!
Be cautious opening any attachment,
regardless of who sent it.
Regularly check the OIT Internet Scams page.
