Sno-Isle Libraries is a large, two-county library district in the beautiful north Puget Sound region of Washington State. BRANCH CIRCULATION SUPERVISOR

Branch Circulation Supervisor Job 7541 Closes 10/27/2010

Full Salary Range $4092 - 5624, plus benefits, 40 hours/week Lynnwood Library, WA

This position may include morning, afternoon, evening, and weekends including Sundays. Successful candidate may be required to adapt to future schedule and location changes depending on library needs.

 

§ Supervises assigned circulation staff in providing effective and efficient service to customers

§ Interview, select and train staff; provide coaching and continue training to enhance circulation services

§ Perform circulation tasks such as charging and issuing materials to customers; receiving, processing and returning materials to appropriate locations; recommends and develops procedures and improvements

§ Serves as part of building management team, planning and problem-solving service issues

§ Shares responsibilities with Librarian-in-charge for responding to building and customer issues in the absence of the Managing Librarian and Assistant Managing Librarian

§ Participates in opening and closing the building and may initiate request for repairs or maintenance when facility or equipment problems arise

§ Receive and account for cash from fees and copier charges

 

Requires competent knowledge of the integrated library computer system; the library’s organized system for shelving and locating materials; organization and management of materials; Library District policies and procedures; principles of supervision of the work of others.

 

Requires the ability to supervise the work of others in a manner that enhances their performance and assures quality public service; excellent organizational abilities; write, speak and understand English clearly and concisely; and maintain favorable interpersonal relations with the public and co-workers.

 

Requires the ability to select, train and supervise staff to assure quality public service and work cooperatively with others. This position supervises the work of Public Service Assistants and Page staff and performs the same work as staff on a regular basis.

 

These skills and abilities are typically acquired through a combination of experience, training and education that provides the required skills and knowledge equivalent to four years’ experience in related public service work, some of which must have been in a library. Full Salary Range $23.61 - $32.45/hour, No Guaranteed Hours West District Libraries, WA

West District: This position may substitute up to 19 hours per week and no more than 69 hours per month at the Clinton, Coupeville, Freeland, Langley, and Oak Harbor community libraries to cover regular staff absences and may require mornings, afternoons, evenings, and weekends. Willingness to work widely varying hours (sometimes on short notice) at any of the locations listed is essential. To ensure maximum flexibility, an individual in this position may not hold another Sno-Isle position concurrently.

 

§ Provide and assist customers with general reader’s advisory, reference services, and usage of library facilities and services

§ Explain and demonstrate procedures and methods for bibliographic and reference searches

§ Maintain and develop reference materials and sources

§ Plan and present children’s programming

 

Requires competent knowledge of library materials; Library District policies and procedures; integrated library computer system; materials selection process; reader’s advisory; bibliographic search techniques, and reference tools.

 

Requires the ability to use a bar code reader, computer equipment, Internet and standard office equipment; speak, understand and write English clearly and concisely; conduct reference interviews; work cooperatively and maintain favorable relations with the public and co-workers.

 

Requires a Master’s degree in Library Information Science from an ALA-accredited college or university, plus two years experience as a professional level librarian and have or be able to obtain a Washington State Librarian certificate.

The successful candidate for this position will demonstrate excellent communication and customer service skills and may be required to adapt to future schedule and location changes depending on library needs.

 

§ Issue library materials using the integrated library computer system; reserve materials for customers

§ Verify customer residency information and register customer for library cards

§ Respond to routine telephone inquiries regarding materials and services

§ Receive, record, and return materials to proper locations; inspect, clean and mend materials

§ Open and close building; assist in maintaining circulation areas in a neat, clean and orderly condition

 

Requires basic knowledge of library materials; Library District policies and procedures; operation of library computer system and personal computers using keyboarding skills; Internet and standard office machines; frequently lift and/or move objects or materials weighing up to 35 pounds.
