Organized by Université de Montréal School of library and information
science (EBSI), within its Master degree in Information Science accredited
by ALA, this international summer seminar can either be taken for academic
credit or on a non-credit basis. .
For graduate LIS students it is an exciting opportunity to earn six graduate
LIS credits (SCI- International and comparative aspects of information
science and SCI-6343- Special topics). For library professionals it is an
excellent way to learn about recent developments of libraries in France.
The focus will be on:
- library architecture
- cooperation and management of libraries
- use of open source library management systems
- use of social media
- library programs.
The tour starts in Villeurbanne with a presentation of the French Library
system at the École nationale supérieure des sciences de l¹information et
des bibliothèques (ENSSIB), the most important library school in France
which is a partner of the program.
Libraries visited (public, academic and the Bibliothèque nationale de
France) are all located in recently built buildings.
The registration fee covering travel, hotels and organization is 3250$ CAD
(leaving from Montreal), excluding tuition fees.
Language requirements: all presentations will be in French. It is
recommended to have a basic knowledge of French to register (a short
immersion course prior departure might be organized on demand, provided we
have a minimum of students)
