Dr. Ann
Weeks Named as Associate Dean-elect

(10/15/10)--Dean Jennifer Preece is pleased to announce the appointment of Dr.
Ann Carlson Weeks as Associate Dean-elect for the University of
Maryland’s iSchool. Dr. Weeks will become Associate Dean following
the retirement of Dr. Diane Barlow in spring 2011. In making the
appointment Dr. Preece stated, “We are fortunate to have an individual
with Ann’s unique combination of knowledge of the evolution and growth of
the iSchool @ Maryland and her substantial administrative experience as
Executive Director of three divisions of the American Library Association and
Director of Libraries and Information Services for the Chicago Public
Schools. I know that she will work effectively with the faculty,
students, and administrative staff in continuing to expand the programs and
influence of the College, within the University, the region, and around the
world.” Dr. Weeks was appointed Professor of the Practice at the
iSchool in 2000, and has been Coordinator of the School Library Media
Specialization since 2008. She received the 2009 ALISE Award for
Excellence in Teaching and currently serves as a member of the Council of the
American Library Association (ALA), the Board of the Association for Library
and Information Science Education (ALISE), and the Editorial Boards of the Journal of Education for Library and
Information Science (JELIS) and World
Libraries. In addition to her responsibilities as
Associate Dean, Dr. Weeks will continue her involvement with international
activities including offering Study Abroad courses during the Winter and Summer
terms, participating in the State Department’s U.S. Speaker and
Specialist Program, and collaborating with the iSchool’s Associate Dean
for Research, Allison Druin, and the University of Maryland computer science
professor, Ben Bederson, on the continuing development of the International
Children’s Digital Library (ICDL).
