Call for Proposals: Project RITE For the 6th year, UT Knoxville and UT Martin are offering Project RITE (Research of Instructional Technology in Education) grants to faculty who plan to study the impact of technology-mediated instructional strategies on student learning outcomes. 2011 Project RITE proposals are due on Tuesday, October 12. Dont be a phish!  Weve all gotten these messages from time to time - an email that looks like it came from a reputable source: the HelpDesk, a social networking site, your bank - but it has a link in it and youre told to click the link. Or, you might be asked to reply and "confirm your password," open the attached document for a special mortgage interest rate, or something similar. These are all popular scams to get you to give up your login credentials for the University, your banking website, or social networking sites, in order to violate your identity or spread malware. Many scams today use multiple tricks to fool you into following their directions. Hackers have become very talented at crafting emails that look just like the real thing, and they even employ people to proofread their English, since poor grammar was once the hallmark of spam. In Information Technology, we call this Phishing. The simple rules to avoid being scammed are simple.

Course Capture in Hoskins 110 If you need to webcast one or more class sessions, or capture sessions for use later, the course capture system in Hoskins 110 is just what you need! In addition to real-time webcasting and time-shifting of class sessions, this technology can be used to create supplemental presentations, to preserve presentations by guest lecturers, and for advance recording of review sessions prior to exams. To learn more about course capture, read Lecture Capture: a Guide for Effective Use [PDF] from the CRLT Occasional Papers series published by the Center for Research on Learning and Teaching at the University of Michigan.  Please note that logistical and technical considerations require that this service be scheduled no less than 24 hours in advance, and it may not be available at certain times.
