PENN STATE BEAVER CAMPUS

The Pennsylvania State University Libraries invite applications for the position of Reference Librarian at the Penn State Beaver campus. The Reference Librarian, as a member of the University Libraries faculty, is responsible for providing reference and instructional services to the Beaver campus community. The Reference Librarian shares responsibility with the Head Librarian for developing collections and services, participates in planning activities, and is expected to be active in a variety of service opportunities (both on campus and within the University Libraries). This is a non-tenure track renewable fixed term faculty position that reports to the Head Librarian at Penn State Beaver. Some evening and weekend work is required.

REQUIREMENTS: Requires MLS degree from an ALA-accredited institution (or equivalent), excellent communication and interpersonal skills.  Academic library experience, instructional skills, and demonstrated knowledge of academic and library applications of Web 2.0 technologies are desirable.

Title                       Curator of the Harvard Theatre Collection

Duties & Responsibilities:          

Reporting to the Associate Librarian of Houghton Library for Collections, the Curator has primary responsibility for administration of the Harvard Theatre Collection, including collection building, collection promotion, and working with faculty and students.  The Curator interacts collaboratively with the Associate Librarian for Public Services and the Associate Librarian for Technical Services on matters relating to access, cataloging, and digitization of the collection, and with faculty, Houghton curators, and staff from Harvard’s Loeb Music Library, the Harvard Film Archive, and Harvard’s Office of the Arts and Culture in matters pertaining to collection development and programs. The Curator will engage faculty and students in aligning Theatre Collection programs with teaching and research. The Curator will represent Houghton Library at meetings of professional and scholarly organizations, especially those pertaining to the history of the performing arts. 

 

Typical Duties and Responsibilities:

·         Establishes annual and long-range goals and priorities for HTC; supervises HTC staff;

·         Oversees management of HTC budget and restricted funds;

·         Develops the collections through purchase and gift; works with dealers, private collectors, and potential donors; works with Harvard College Library’s Development Office in the cultivation of donors and financial resources;

·         Promotes and provides access to the collections through exhibitions, lectures, publications, scholarly research, and public programs; organizes and participates in conferences and symposia relating to collections;

·         Works closely with the Associate Librarian for Collections and Houghton curators in long-range planning for the Collections Division and establishing curatorial policies and procedures;

·         Works closely with Houghton Preservation Librarian in establishing conservation and preservation priorities;

·         Advises and consults with Houghton’s Associate Librarian for Technical Services and technical services staff regarding cataloging priorities and issues concerning digitization and catalog access to the collections

·         Engages faculty and students, particularly in the arts and humanities, in aligning programs with current teaching and research; participates in student seminars; interacts with researchers using theatre collection resources; and works with Houghton Public

·         Services staff in providing researchers access to the collections

·         Collaborates, when appropriate, with faculty in the arts and humanities and with staff of similar library collections and programs within Harvard, such as the Loeb Music Library, the Harvard Film Archives, and the Office of the Arts and Culture in areas of mutual interest, including collection development

·         Assumes leadership roles in appropriate Library and University committees; participates in national professional and scholarly organizations.

 

Basic Qualifications:      

·         Bachelor of Arts required and a minimum 5 years work experience in a special collections department, preferably in an academic research library environment;

·         Experience managing a collections budget and working with the development office in the cultivation of donor and financial resources;

·         Knowledge of the history of the performing arts and the antiquarian book market;

·         Reading knowledge of at least two modern European languages required;

·         Basic knowledge of library systems and catalogs and issues concerning digitization and catalog access to the collections required;

·         Proficiency with standard MS Office Suite, database, and spreadsheet software;

·         Experience in a supervisory and project management role required.

 

Additional Qualifications:

·         MLS strongly preferred; An advanced degree in a subject relevant to the collection strongly preferred;

·         Record of scholarly publication; active member/leader of professional activities and organizations;

·         Strong written and oral communication skills;

·         Experience working with the development office in the cultivation of donors and financial resources preferred;

·         Ability to work collaboratively with varied constituents at all levels across the Harvard College Library and the University;

·         Ability to lift 30 lb. cartons and oversized books. This position works primarily within an office environment, but must frequently work short-term in basements, attics, and storage lockers, with exposure to dust, damp, and mold.

Historic Jamestowne Director of Public Programs and Operations:  Preservation Virginia seeks a highly motivated individual to develop public programming and oversee day-to-day operations at Historic Jamestowne—America’s Birthplace.  The individual will supervise public programming, retail, food and beverage operations, maintenance/ grounds staff, volunteers, and the Voorhees Archaearium.   The position will also act as a liaison to the National Park Service, partner organizations and the wider community. The successful candidate will be a member of the senior management team and support building a sustainable program for the next decade.  Consistent with the agreement between Preservation Virginia (PV) and the Colonial Williamsburg Foundation (CWF) by which CWF has taken on management responsibilities for Historic Jamestowne, he or she will report directly to CWF’s vice president of research and historical interpretation.

 

Qualifications:  Minimum of five years demonstrated management, partnership and communication skills, and experience in cultural/museum or related field.

Preference will be given to those with experience in building public programming and community relations. A familiarity with colonial Virginia history an advantage. Masters in education, history or historic preservation preferred.

         Participating in the initiative, led by CWF, to seek recognition of Historic Jamestowne as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

          Cooperating with CWF’s marketing and promotional activities for Historic Jamestowne and coordinating media opportunities on site.

          Monitoring monthly levels of visitation, visitor demographics, and guest satisfaction.

          Serving as the principal liaison with the National Park Service (NPS) and other partner organizations as the on-site representative of CWF and PV and ensuring timely and appropriate communications. 

          Cooperating with CWF’s hospitality and products divisions in identifying opportunities for increasing revenue in the areas of retail, food service, and facility rentals.

          Supervising PV staff and volunteers in the areas of administration, public programming, retail, and maintenance/ grounds staff.

Director of Development:  Preservation Virginia seeks qualified and enthusiastic development officer to grow its fundraising effort.  Founded in 1889, the APVA is the nation’s first statewide preservation association.  The individual will identify, cultivate and develop fundraising strategies to expand the giving program through membership, planned and major gifts as well as the Annual Fund program.  The candidate will supervise an office of two and work with the board and statewide network of branches.  The candidate will work directly with the Executive Director and in coordination with the management staff.

The director of development is responsible for designing, implementing and managing the various fund-raising programs. The director reports to the executive director and supports the Board and Development Committee.

 

Duties of the position include:

 

Participating with the senior management team to identify needs and opportunities for support,

Formulating fundraising strategies to ensure proper acknowledgement, recognition and stewardship of donors on all levels,

 

Managing annual giving for the organization with a focus on the major gift level,

 

Identifying, researching and coordinating grant opportunities with the program staff to support specific aspects of operations and programs,

 

Planning and executing special and cultivation events,

 

Managing and expanding the organization's planned giving initiative,

 

Developing materials related to the fundraising effort including campaign materials, case statements, brochures and other development literature, as well as supporting other communications to members and supporters including E-News, Annual Report and Ventures,

 

Evaluating the effectiveness of development programs by generating giving reports and conducting comparative analysis,

 

Assisting in the preparation of the annual budget and goal evaluation,

 

Participating in professional development and community organizations,

 

Managing the integrity of the membership and donor database,
