The University of Tennessee, Knoxville seeks a dynamic and visionary leader
to serve as Dean of University Libraries. The ideal candidate will lead the
Libraries to the next level of excellence in meeting the needs of a
preeminent public research university; articulate a clear strategic vision
and translate that vision into concrete objectives; maintain and advance the
Libraries' implementation of innovative approaches to library management and
services; exhibit the highest standards of professional integrity and
professional conduct; and be an engaging and effective advocate for the
Libraries within the University and larger community.  The University of
Tennessee, Knoxville seeks candidates who have the ability to contribute in
meaningful ways to the diversity and intercultural goals of the University,
and invites both nominations and applications for this position. 

 

The Dean of University Libraries reports to the Provost and Senior Vice
Chancellor and serves as a member of the Council of Deans.   The University
Libraries has an annual budget of more than $16.5 million, approximately
$1.5 million in endowment income and new gift commitments each year, and
employs over two hundred persons, including 44 library faculty. UT Libraries
is a member of the Association of Research Libraries, Association of
Southeastern Research Libraries, Lyrasis, and the Center for Research
Libraries. The library values innovation and  excellence in user-centered
service, collaboration, diversity in all regards, creative achievement, and

Minimum Qualifications 

 

. Master's degree from an ALA accredited program or equivalent. 

 

. A distinguished national/international reputation for scholarly and
professional achievement commensurate with appointment at the rank of full
professor. 

 

. A record of demonstrated leadership and significant administrative
experience, including budget management, in an academic or research library.

 

. Commitment to improving diversity among faculty, staff, and students.

 

. Proven success as an effective communicator and advocate with a wide range
of university 

constituencies. 

 

. Knowledge of current trends in academic research and scholarly
communication. 

 

 

Preferred Qualifications 

 

. Additional advanced degree(s). 

 

. Proven success in implementing innovative approaches to library management
and user-centered services. 

 

. Commitment to library assessment programs along with demonstrated use of
assessment in strategic planning. 

 

. Demonstrated commitment to supporting faculty and staff development and
fostering a collaborative work environment. 

 

. Record of  success in securing library funding and support through
philanthropic cultivation, grants, or  other means. 

 

. Proven leadership  in building successful  partnerships with other
academic units, local and regional libraries, and community groups.
