The Davidson Library loans out laptops. The patron is free to take this laptop where they want, however there is a time limit and a VERY steep penalty if returned late, and even worse if it is damaged or lost/stolen. It is all in the agreed to policy that they sign before taking the laptop as well as a disclaimer at the start-up. Trying to keep the laptop in-house would be a NIGHTMARE to manage, and besides, this is Santa Barbara and it is beautiful outside most of the time (and for the library wireless is accessible there). The patron should be made well aware of the policy and the costs that WILL BE incurred if they do not abide by the policy.

I used a program called PC Phonehome. Very inexpensive and easy top
use.
