The Alabama Center for the Book
A
Call To Book Artists, Teachers, Librarians, and Arts Administrators
Saturday, November 6, 2010, 10:30 a.m. – 4:15 p.m.
Amelia Gayle Gorgas Library, 711 Capstone Drive, Tuscaloosa,
Alabama
There is strong, contemporary interest in the art and craft of making
books by hand. The Alabama
Center for the Book will host a first-time, statewide gathering of book
artists, educators, administrators, and librarians centering upon the art and
craft of the book. Those who attend this meeting will help connect the
dots among makers and those who utilize and appreciate handmade books in our
state. This meeting is co-sponsored by the Alabama Center for the Book, the
University of Alabama Libraries, the School of Library & Information
Studies, and the College of Communication & Information Sciences at The
University of Alabama.
WHO ARE WE? Book
artists, bookbinders, letterpress printers, papermakers, K-University teachers
who incorporate the Book Arts into their curricula, librarians with an interest
in special collections, museum administrators and book and paper dealers in the
state of Alabama— anyone specializing in any aspect of the Book Arts. Our
goal is to foster a greater awareness of the Book Arts community in Alabama and
to identify ways the Alabama Center for the Book can advance and promote the
Book Arts.
