Kent
State University’s School of Library and Information Science is pleased
to announce the addition of five new full-time faculty members, each bringing a
unique range of experience and expertise to enhance our academic and research
programs.
Kent
State offers the only Master of Library and Information Science degree program
in Ohio that is accredited by the American Library Association, and one of the
nation’s few master’s degrees in Information Architecture and
Knowledge Management. The school is recognized by U.S. News and World Report
as one of the nation’s top 20 graduate schools, and is one of the largest
library schools in the country, with more than 700 students enrolled.

Michael O. Bice has
joined Kent State University’s School of Library and Information Science
(SLIS) with the charge to further develop and implement a new
concentration in health information management, offered in conjunction with a
graduate degree in Information Architecture and Knowledge Management (IAKM).
The concentration will include a core curriculum as well as four additional
courses focused completely on health information management, such as the
legal aspects of electronic health records, health care data mining and
security of health care records. Bice earned his Bachelor of Arts at the State
University of New York at Binghamton and his Master of Health Administration
from the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor. He served as a hospital executive
for 30 years and taught various graduate level courses, most recently in
the University of Florida’s College of Public Health and Health Professions.

Rosemary Du Mont

Dr.
Rosemary Du Mont returns to the School of Library and Information Science as
professor in spring 2011. Prior to coming to Kent State in 1986, she taught in
the library science programs at the University of Oklahoma and University of
Kentucky. From 1986 to 1995 she served as dean and director of Kent
State’s SLIS, after which she held various administrative posts in
Libraries and Media Services and in the Division of Information Services. Most
recently she was Director of Research and Instructional Initiatives for the
College of Communication and Information. In SLIS, she will teach courses on
management, diversity, information policy, and information use and religion.
Her primary areas of research include distance learning technologies,
multiculturalism and diversity in the library profession, and health
information-seeking behaviors of older adults. Rosemary earned her B.S. from
Northwestern University, an M.S.L.S. from Syracuse University and a Ph.D. in
Library and Information Science from the University of Pittsburgh. She is
currently pursuing a master’s in theology from Walsh University in
Canton.

Kiersten F. Latham

Dr.
Kiersten F. Latham received her Ph.D. in library and information management
from Emporia State University, Kansas. She holds a master’s in historical
administration and museum studies from the University of Kansas and a
bachelor’s in anthropology from the University of Michigan. Before coming
to Kent State, she taught at the University of Kansas, Lawrence; Bowling Green
State University, Bowling Green, Ohio; and Michigan State University, East
Lansing, as well as online courses for the Northern States Conservation Center.
She has more than 20 years’ experience working in museums in various
capacities – as curator, collection manager, director, volunteer, program
coordinator, archivist, historic interpreter, board member, exhibit designer
and consultant. Her research interests center on the relationship between
physical objects and humans, especially the role of affect and lived
experience; document theory; and convergence issues surrounding libraries,
archives and museums.

Nancy
Lensenmayer has joined SLIS as a full-time faculty member at the Columbus site,
where she has previously taught as a part-time instructor. Nancy will teach
core curriculum courses, as well as courses on reference and information
services, library automation and marketing. She has more than 30 years’
experience as a library and information professional, working in public,
academic and corporate libraries. She also serves currently as program
director, Education and Professional Development, at OCLC (Online Computer
Library Center Inc.) in Dublin, Ohio. Her focus areas are reference and
information services, international librarianship, and education and
professional development opportunities for librarians. She earned her Bachelor
of Arts at Adrian College in Adrian, Michigan, and her Master of Arts in Library
Science from the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor.
Dr. Catherine L. Smith

Dr.
Catherine Smith most recently was a post-doctoral research associate at Rutgers
University, working as co-PI with Dr. Nina Wacholder on a study funded by a
Google Research Award. She completed her Ph.D. in Information Science at
Rutgers University School of Communication and Information; she also received a
Certificate in Cognitive Science from the Rutgers Center for Cognitive Science,
an MBA from Simmons College, Boston, and a B.A. from Bard College,
Annandale-on-Hudson, N.Y. Her research bridges information retrieval and
human-computer interaction, centering on the psychology of interactive search
and the design of adaptive search systems. She also is interested in search
expertise and the design of systems that help users gain search skills. Dr.
Smith designed, developed and launched the International Documentary Library
Service, a database-driven digital library for documentary film, television and
radio. Her experience also includes management in various capacities in banking
and investment services, including systems, operations, marketing, and business
strategy, for BankBoston.
