Community Virtual Library, a non-profit library organization operating within the virtual world, Second Life, serves a dual role as virtual public library to the residents of Second Life as well as a "learning lab" for instructors, students, librarians and others interested in a hands-on experience in acquiring the skills to create, teach and inform others in a virtual setting.  Volunteers on the three core sims, Info Island, Info Island International and Imagination Island provide resources, reference services, classes and events open to all.  Experienced volunteers also provide tours, workshops, discussions, lectures and educational opportunities.    All of this plus regular social events creates an experience that gathers (or brings) people from around the world into a unique library community.

TAP Information Services (www.tapinformation.com) helps organizations innovate.

The School of Library and Information Science at San José State University (http://slisweb.sjsu.edu) offers  a Master of Library and Information Science degree, which is fully accredited  by the American Library Association.  The School also offers a Master of Archives and Records Administration degree for students who are interested in pursuing a career in electronic records management.  Additionally, the School partners with Queensland University of Technology to offer a doctoral program in Library and Information Science.  The School is a recognized leader in making effective use of leading edge technologies for distance learning.
