The Association of Canadian Archivists UBC Student Chapter (ACA@UBC) is
pleased to announce its 3rd Annual International Seminar and
Symposium to be held on February 9-11, 2011 at the University of British
Columbia, Vancouver Campus.
The theme for the symposium “The Law of Unintended Consequences:
The right to be forgotten, the duty to remember,” was inspired by
current issues in social media, the web, and mobile
communications.
A line-up of confirmed speakers include: Seamus Ross, Dean, iSchool,
University of Toronto; Agnes Yonker, Senior lecturer / archivist,
Universiteit van Amsterdam, Netherlands; Paul Conway, Associate
Professor, School of Information, University of Michigan; Barbara
Endicott-Popovsky, Director, Center of Information Assurance and
Cybersecurity, University of Washington; Karen Anderson, Chair of the
Archival Program at Mid Sweden University, Sweden. We also expect
speakers from the Library of Congress, and Library and Archives
Canada. Like last year, the symposium is offered under the aegis of
the UNESCO Memory of the World Program.
As soon as the complete program will be ready, we will send it to the
list. This message is to ask you to save the date so that you can
come and spend an exciting and stimulating day with us at UBC. Those who
wish to have a clearer idea of the type of event can go to last year’s
