Knowledge Management Research Fellowship 


The Eskind Biomedical Library and Knowledge Management at Vanderbilt
University Medical Center (VUMC) offer a two-year Knowledge Management
Research Fellowship which includes a unique exposure to all facets of an
innovative and internationally-recognized academic biomedical library
and informatics center and mentoring to develop the leadership and
research skills necessary to successfully guide future health
information services units.  

This fellowship provides the opportunity to become a key player in the
Knowledge Management team that provides high-level data and knowledge
organization skills to optimize VUMC's clinical, research and
educational initiatives by collaborating with clinicians and researchers
to embed best practices in the organizing, structuring and reuse of the
institution's knowledge.  The fellow will be given the opportunity to
learn or experience different facets of knowledge management such as:
providing clinical evidence-based information services, participating in
projects to integrate filtered information into informatics tools, grant
writing, developing user and staff training sessions, and using his/her
skills to assist fellow knowledge management/library staff and users.

Reporting to the Assistant Vice-Chancellor for Knowledge Management and
Director of the Eskind Biomedical Library, the fellow will help the team
conceive and develop innovative, value-added projects and services;
actively contribute and participate in the writing of grant applications
and reports; collaborate on research and grant projects with faculty and
knowledge management colleagues; and contribute as needed to knowledge
management projects.  In addition, he or she will be exposed to
leadership issues and challenges, be able take advantage of the
extensive leadership training opportunities available to VUMC staff and
be mentored in methods for implementing change at organizational and
professional levels.

 

Qualifications 
Requires a master's degree in library/information science or a master's
degree in a relevant field (e.g. biomedical informatics, public health,
a biological science).  First consideration will be given to candidates
with at least three years experience with scholarly communication and/or
grant writing.

high level of self-direction and initiative, demonstrated attention to
detail and the ability to effectively follow up
*	excellent computer skills and proficiency with technology use
and integration
*	the ability to prioritize and work both independently and as
part of a team
*	a vision for the future of information and knowledge management 
*	a desire to work in a fast paced, highly demanding and dynamic
environment where personalized medicine and pharmacogenetics are top
priorities.

Training Approach 
Fellows are expected to complete a unique training program in knowledge
management and health science librarianship which is a mixture of
life-long learning and project-based management.  Fellows are typically
involved in various program areas or projects in order to develop or
enhance skills such as library research, synthesis and analysis,
leadership, setting priorities, planning, time management and allocating
resources.  Opportunities are available to attend biomedical informatics
seminars and grand rounds and for advanced training in health/biomedical
science librarianship and biomedical informatics.  Fellows are expected
to demonstrate knowledge gained through the training program in skills
verification sessions.  

This is a full-time position (40 hours per week).  Demonstration of
knowledge, skills and competencies along with the successful completion
of the two-year fellowship could make the candidate eligible to apply
for a regular knowledge management position at EBL.  

Salary and Benefits

 

The minimum salary for the position is $44,000; the salary is
commensurate with experience.  Other benefits

information delivery vehicle for Vanderbilt University Medical Center
