*DIGITAL PROJECTS SPECIALIST, The University of California, Irvine
Libraries  *
(one year contract position)

*Job Summary*
Under the general supervision of the Director of Information Technology, the
Digital Projects Specialist explores, adapts and supports library
information technologies for digital projects, including the application of
standards, metadata, discovery interfaces, workflow design, production
coordination, and quality controls appropriate to specific projects.  Works
with the Libraries' Digital Scholarship Program Working Group to develop
solutions that can be integrated with other systems utilizing current
standards and within the context of the Libraries' infrastructure.
 Collaborates and coordinates with other staff in the UCI Libraries, on
campus and system-wide as appropriate.

*SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES:*

*Required:*
Familiarity with current/emerging digital preservation technologies as well
as digital library standards, protocols & architectures.
Solid understanding of digital repository software (DSpace, Fedora,
EPrints).
Experience with or knowledge of relevant software tools and platforms,
storage issues, and metadata issues pertinent to digital libraries and/or
institutional repositories.
Experience with XML and XML-related technologies, such as XSLT,
SGML/XML/XSL.
Thorough understanding of standards and best practices for digital
collections.
Working knowledge of a range of computing platforms, storage environments,
and digital library metadata frameworks (such as METS, MIX, and PREMIS, as
well as the OAIS model).
Demonstrated knowledge of digital reformatting and digital conversion
policies and technical procedures, including cost factors and productivity
issues.
Ability to draft and maintain clear documentation and policies for digital
projects and programs.
Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
Evidence of excellent communication skills, including effective presentation
and writing skills.
Ability to develop knowledge and skills related to the position
continuously.
Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships and to
interact diplomatically with staff, patrons and vendors.
Skill to adapt to change and balance work priorities in a fast paced
environment.
Demonstrated ability to maintain a good attendance record.

*Desired:*
Experience planning, implementing, and/or maintaining an institutional
repository (IR) using DSpace, ContentDM, Fedora, or another IR package.
Basic knowledge of copyright and rights management issues as they relate to
digital reformatting and scholarly communication
Working knowledge of University of California Policies and Procedures.

Salary: Annual $57,936 - $78,668
