Members and Instructors,
I hope beginning practices have gone
well for each martial art! As you know, each year we have new members
and returning members fill out new waivers and submit dues. Dues are $45
per semester- same as last year. Instructors: please appoint one
representative from your club gather waivers and organize them in the
martial arts folders. Each side of the waiver should be complete (except
for the driving information- unless you plan on driving others to
tournaments). This means that every line except the driving section
should have information on it! Failure to complete and compile waivers
within a reasonable time frame (three weeks) will result in suspension
of practice- we cannot have our members practicing without waivers
complete. Dues are of the same policy, but if players do not have their
$45 at their third practice they will not be allowed to participate.
(Exceptions will be made to students with financial complications)
Instructors:
If you have not emailed your yearly or semester
syllabus to Dr. Tyrell outlining your club's class schedule, do so soon.
Please
keep a sign-in sheet that can be placed in the martial arts folders at
the end of each practice- Dr. Tyrell specifically requests these in
regard to matters of safety, insurance, injury, and potential lawsuit
affairs.
Judo:
If you plan on competing this year, all first division
entry fees will be paid for by the Martial Arts Club. If you wish to
compete in a second wight or belt division, you must provide the amount
for the additional division(s).
Competitors must sign up by at least two weeks prior to any
competition. If you do not have a definite answer regarding your ability
to participate by two weeks prior, you will not be able to compete or
travel to the planned event. If you do commit to an event by the
designated sign-up date and do not attend, you forfeit your right to
compete in future tournaments. Additionally, if major preparations are
made for important tournaments that involve national flights and
bookings and you are not able to attend after committing by the
specified deadline, the club will determine your future activity as a
member.
If your commitment to practice is such that practices are missed due
to other reasons beside work/studies, church, or family your privileges
of competition, refereeing, and coaching will be evaluated and decided
upon accordingly. In general, missing practice is more detrimental to
other members' learning experience than it is to your own.
Members:
Safety is very important, keep in mind your
responsibilities when you are learning martial arts inside and out of
the dojo. Practice or use of your martial art outside the dojo in an
improper setting will result in your loss of membership.
Keep in mind you are representing the University of Tennessee as
well as the Martial Arts Club! Set a good example!
We have many
events planned for this year and many new members coming our way! Do
your best to welcome them and take part in the Martial Arts Club.
