Professor Catherine
Ross formally retired from the Faculty of Information and Media Studies (FIMS)
at the University of Western Ontario on June 30, 2010. Catherine has a long and
distinguished record of leadership at FIMS. She was instrumental in the
formation of FIMS in the mid-1990s, and served as Dean of the Faculty from
2002-2007, and Acting Dean from 2000-2002. Catherine also served as Acting Dean
and Acting Associate Dean of GSLIS from 1990-1992; as Acting Dean and Associate
Dean in the Faculty of Grad Studies from 1992-1996; and, most recently, as
Acting Vice-Provost in 2009.
An outstanding scholar in the areas of reading and the
reading experience and information seeking and use, Catherine’s books and
papers are on many LIS course reading lists across North America, and she is a
recipient of the Jesse
Shera, American Library Association Award for Research, and the ALISE
Award for Professional Contributions to Library and Information Science
Education.
Although Catherine has been formally retired as of
June 30, 2010, she continues to participate actively in the scholarly
life of the Faculty in an Adjunct capacity.
