However, if the health insurance is based on retirement and they are not allowed to keep the insurance as an active employee because they are in a part-time temporary position ,they would need to sign up for Part B when they retire so that they would not be penalized. Medicare would be primary and Part B is necessary. We have people working in Extension on Post-retirement appointments. They've retired with federal benefits and are receiving an annuity. Their status with us is as a part-time temporary employee. I thought that when they reached 65 they should sign up for Medicare Part A and Part B but a woman at Medicare told one employee that as long as he was working he only needed to sign up for Part A until he quit working all together. Can anyone shed any light on this?
