Dear Club Geographers, I hope that everyone has enjoyed their first weeks back at UT! Even though summer is over, it does not mean that the fun has to stop. Yesterday, many of us met for the first meeting of the Club Geographers, and we discussed what events we would like to do to get the club up and running. Let me start by introducing myself to everyone. My name is Jennifer White, and I am the newly elected president of the Club Geography. Sarah Jones is the Vice-President, Rachel Smith is the Treasurer, and Kelsey Vaughn is the Secretary. We are all excited about the events we have started planning for the club, and hope that a lot of people get involved. If you have any questions about how to get involved, just ask any one of us. We first discussed plans to meet at Mellow Mushroom every Wednesday (starting September 8th) for trivia, pizza, and beverages. Trivia starts at 8, but if you sign up for a Mellow Mushroom member's card, you can get $2 drafts from 4-6, so we might meet a little early and have our club meetings before trivia. You can sign up for the member's card at Mellow Mushroom or online. So come enjoy free food and be apart of the club! We also discussed plans to go on a few hiking excursions throughout the semester, and suggestions on times and places would be great. House Mountain and the Smokies were already mentioned, and we talked about having a possible over-night trip over fall break if enough people are interested. Another item on our agenda is the Geography Awareness Week where we need volunteers who would like to go to Elementary schools in the surrounding area to talk about geography with children, set up booths outside of the Burchfield building, and other various volunteering opportunities. Last, but not least, If there is anyone in the club who would like to be the Creative Director for the club, just let anyone on the staff know. We need someone who would like to make posters, t-shirt designs, and fliers for events.
