Join the National Mining Museum’s team for museum learning and fun in the Colorado Rockies. The internship provides for a wide array of duties, offering an optimal learning experience for those interested in pursuing a career in the humanities.

The intern will divide hours between the Museum and our historic mine site in Admissions, Gift Shop, and Museum Projects.

Responsibilities for Admissions and Gift Shop include, but are not limited to:

Museum Projects: Projects will range from a wide variety of museum related tasks, such as assist curator with collections management, exhibit development and design, assist in library and archive department, work on educational programming, site interpretation, marketing and community development, etc. We will work with intern to identify projects which correlate with their interests and career goals.

Qualifications: Prefer candidates who are interested in pursuing a humanities related career. Must be willing to learn, be a self starter and have the desire to complete thorough work. Must be able to multi-task and have good time management skills. Candidates should be able to work well with others, and independently, as well as possess excellent interpersonal communication skills. Basic computer skills required.

Other: We have multiple internship openings available and are accepting all interested applicants. Along with interns interested in curatorial work, we are looking for interns interested in museum education and archives/library work.

Salary: Current salary for the internship is $7.28 per hour. The position is part time, roughly 4 days a week and will include occasional weekends, holidays and after hours events.

Dates: Internship begins in August and the duration is negotiable (preferably six months or longer). This is a great way to get your foot in the door!

THE POSITION

The University Libraries of the University of South Dakota (USD) seek a collaborative, user-focused librarian to serve as health science and medical information specialist for the Sanford School of Medicine (SSOM) and the School of Health Sciences, supporting associates to doctoral programs in medicine, eight allied health science professions, and possibly other interdisciplinary science fields. As a member of the University Libraries' faculty, the selected candidate will be expected to excel in librarianship and engage in service to the profession.

The USD University Libraries include the I.D. Weeks & Lommen Health Sciences Libraries in Vermillion and operate the Wegner Health Sciences Information Center (WHSIC) in Sioux Falls. The University Libraries serve as the Resource Library for South Dakota within the National Network of Libraries of Medicine, Greater Midwest Region. The WHSIC is the Outreach Library.

Specific responsibilities include:

Minimum Qualifications: Master's degree in Library or Information Science from an ALA-accredited program; academic background in health, life, physical, or interdisciplinary sciences; aptitude and interest in mastering emerging technologies; evidence of professional involvement within medical or academic librarianship; excellent oral and written communication skills; and teaching ability.
Desirable Qualifications: Two years of professional experience in a health sciences library or equivalent experience; advanced degree in health-related field of study; knowledge of evidence-based healthcare; experience searching appropriate health related and life sciences research databases and resources such as PubMed; and a record of scholarly publication.

Salary: Beginning salary between $44,000- 59,000 depending on experience.
