Employment Opportunity JOB TITLE: Librarian I - Lenski (Grade 21) STATUS: Full-time (currently 37.50) - Non-Exempt LOCATION: Main Library - Lenski Children's Center, 201 S. Under general supervision of the Director, the Librarian I - Lenski interacts extensively with the public and other staff members and is responsible for coordination and administration of youth services at the Main Library. REQUIRED EDUCATION: * Master's degree in Library Science (MLS or MLIS) from an ALA-accredited college PRINCIPAL JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: * Provide prompt, accurate assistance for patrons in utilizing library resources and services * Interpret community interests, concerns, and needs to assist in developing and maintaining appropriate library services and collections o Perform Readers' advisory services, formal communications, and public presentations o Read reviews, bibliographies and other sources in order to plan, promote, implement, recommend, and evaluate department collections, programs, activities, exhibits, and displays o Select, organize, weed, and maintain library materials as assigned * Establish and maintain relationships with local schools, agencies, and organizations for the purpose of promoting youth services programs and encouraging community partnerships o Plan and present effective youth services programs from infants to teens o Prepare and compile reports and statistics reflecting youth services activities o Conduct library tours * Provide support supervision to Children's Center's Library Assistants and Library Associates and establish and maintain effective working relationships with other staff members and the public * Related duties as assigned by the Director MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS/REQUIREMENTS: * Thorough knowledge of children's and young adult literature * Interact and respond professionally and appropriately to patrons and staff * Proficiency with Microsoft Windows and MS Office products, Internet, email, and related products * Strong organizational, written and verbal communication skills * Ability to work independently and with others * Knowledge of library automations systems (prefer knowledge of Polaris automation systems) * Prefer experience with youth programming, including Summer reading Program events and youth collection development OTHER: * Ability to operate tools and controls, reach, stand, walk, sit, see at close range and distance, talk and hear, occasionally lift lightweight objects (up to 25 pounds) and push book carts (up to 50 pounds), bend, reach, and stoop in order to provide general assistance * Valid Ohio driver's license needed to attend meetings and presentations * Ability to work flexible schedule as needed, including some weekend and evening hours Salary and Benefits: Excellent benefits include Ohio Public Employees Retirement System, ten (10) holidays, term life insurance, four (4) wks. vacation, sick leave, generous Health insurance offering.
