HEAD OF DIGITAL MEDIA AND LIBRARY TECHNOLOGIES

The Dartmouth College Library seeks an energetic, service-oriented leader to
provide strategic direction for both the Jones Media Center and the Digital
Library Technologies Group. Reporting to the Associate Librarian for
Information Management, this position has responsibility for many aspects of
media services and library technologies (directly supervising eight
positions within a total staff of 11.75 FTE positions and many student
employees); provides vision for the application of instructional technology
and new media in higher education and ensures highly responsive service to
the users of the Media Center; leads the Digital Library Technologies Group,
who are responsible for the development, installation, operation, and
maintenance of the technologies supporting the Digital Library; and exerts
collaborative leadership within multi-divisional teams to support
Dartmouth's mission. This position ensures a high level of visibility for
the Library on campus and at the natio!
 nal level through active participation in campus life, library consortia,
and in national professional organizations. The Head of Digital Media and
Library Technologies serves on library-wide committees and is a member of
the Library Management Group.

QUALIFICATIONS: A graduate degree in a related field.  A minimum of 5 years
leading complex technology-driven teams in an academic setting. Demonstrated
ability to manage complex, long-term projects. Demonstrated public service
commitment; excellent analytical, organizational, and communication skills;
and the ability to work collegially in a team environment.

RANK AND SALARY: The position is part of the Librarian Classification System
of Professional Ranks. Salary is commensurate with experience. Full benefits
package including 22 vacation days; comprehensive health care; retirement
plans, including TIAA-CREF; and relocation assistance.

*Newseum Fall Collections Internship – Washington, DC*

Are you looking for an exciting internship that will provide you with the
skills necessary to help you obtain full-time museum employment? If so, the
Newseum’s Collections Internship is for you!

 The Newseum, a revolutionary 250,000-square-foot museum of news, offers
visitors an experience that blends five centuries of news history with
up-to-the-second technology and hands-on exhibits.  At the Newseum, we pride
ourselves on creating up-to-the minute exhibits and actively collecting
modern and historic artifacts. As a Newseum intern you can work at our
museum downtown or our state-of-the-art storage center in Laurel, Maryland
(or both). Internship hours are flexible and can be arranged to fit
individual’s schedules - this can include morning and weekend work. You will
be a member of the small, dynamic Collections team and will be able to make
an enormous contribution to the work we do. This is a wonderful opportunity
to gain Collections experience and be involved in the day-to-day operations
of one of Washington, D.C.’s most popular museums!

 *Intern responsibilities will include, but are not limited to assisting
Registrars and Collections Specialists with the following tasks:*

-           Daily monitoring and recording of environmental conditions
(temperature, relative humidity, lighting, etc.) in gallery spaces

-           Processing donations and incoming loans, including cataloging
artifacts in database

-           Monitoring and reporting on exhibition conditions as they
pertain to exhibited collections

-           Assisting with the cleaning of exhibits and artifacts on display
pre-opening

-           Aiding in the installation and de-installation of exhibited
artifacts

-           Compiling information for the new Standard Facilities Report
particularly regarding the environmental conditions/calculations for each of
the galleries

-           Helping with basic artifact conservation

-           If time and interest permits, short-term, independent research
projects related to the collection can be designed



*Newspaper archives internship project*

-           For those who already possess or would like to gain archival
experience, there is the opportunity to work on a self-directed archival
project with the Newseum’s outstanding 35,000 piece newspaper collection
(this project will take place at the Newseum’s storage facility in Laurel,
MD)

Candidates should be currently enrolled in or should have recently finished
a museum-related graduate or undergraduate program, possess basic computer
skills, an interest in collections/registration work, and the ability to
lift 30 pounds.

2011 Winter/Spring Internships at The Gaston County Museum
Dallas, North Carolina

Archives/Collections Intern (2 positions available)

Winter/Spring, 2011 (30 to 40 hours per week)

HOUSING PROVIDED

The Gaston County Museum is currently seeking 2 interns for
winter/spring 2011; one Curatorial and one Archival.  In addition,
both interns will assist the Curatorial Staff in exhibit
design/installation as well as collections management.  The interns
will also work under the guidance of the Curatorial Staff to update
and maintain permanent exhibits and interpreted spaces.

The successful candidates will be detail oriented, organized, and able
to work independently.  Must be able to work with and meet deadlines,
lift up to 30 pounds, and climb stairs and ladders.  Preference will
be given to candidates with previous museum work or course experience
and/or candidates wishing to pursue a career in museums.  Knowledge of
PastPerfect collections database a plus.

The internships are unpaid, but housing that is within walking
distance to the museum is provided.  Both internships will begin in
August and be 30 to 40 hours per week during that time.  Deadline for
application is August 9th, 2010.
