Effective July 1, Dr. Richard E. Rubin, director of Kent State University’s School of Library and Information Science since 1999, will assume a new position as associate provost for extended education. In this role he will oversee the Office of Continuing and Distance Education, University Press and Summer Programs.

Rubin, a resident of Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio, had previously served as interim dean for Kent State’s College of Communication and Information, associate professor and assistant professor at Kent State. Before joining Kent State, Rubin served as visiting assistant professor for the Graduate School of Library and Information Science and research assistant for the Library Research Center of the Graduate School of Library and Information Science at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.

Rubin earned his doctor of philosophy from the University of Illinois. He earned a Master of Library Science from Kent State and a Bachelor of Arts from Oberlin College.

“Rick’s high level of insight into the educational process, combined with his operational administration background, will bring us to a new level of success in our extended education and summer programs,” said Dr. Robert G. Frank, Kent State Provost and Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs. “I look forward to the impact he will have in this important role.”

An interim director for the school will be named shortly.
