July 29, 2010 - The School of Information and Library Science at the
University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill welcomes Stephanie B. Cole to
the position of director of development effective July 30, 2010. In this
role, she will direct the School's development activities and will be
responsible for creating and implementing a strategy which meets the
fundraising goals established for the School.
   
"We are delighted to welcome Stephanie to SILS," said Dr. Gary Marchionini,
dean and Cary C. Boshamer Distinguished Professor. "With a proven record of
fundraising and stewardship, she will fill a much needed role for the school
that will assist us in securing the funds needed to provide scholarships for
our students, endowment for facilities and faculty recruitment, professional
needs for faculty and staff as well as enhancements to technology and other
basic day-to-day necessities."

Cole comes to SILS from University of North Carolina Greensboro where she
most recently served as the capital campaign director. In that role, she
secured major gifts, planned and implemented donor visits involving the
University's chancellor, built a major gift portfolio and developed
strategies for active prospect cultivation. Cole also played a leadership
role in the $115.3 million Students First Campaign. 

Prior to serving as campaign director at UNC - Greensboro, Cole spent ten
years in various positions, including senior director of advancement
services, at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte. She also served
as secretary of the UNC Charlotte Foundation. 

Cole is a member of the Association of Fund Raising Professionals and she is
a Certified Fund Raising Executive (CFRE). She is the current chair of the
BRIDGES Advisory Board, a leadership program for women in North Carolina
higher education. She earned her bachelor of arts degree from the University
of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in broadcast journalism.
