*Summer** Museum Lead Educator Part-time   Long Island, NY*
The Suffolk County Vanderbilt Museum is looking for an educator and program
leader to head our innovative children’s summer vacation program, Wizard
University. This is the second year of this eight week program, and the
museum is looking for a strong educator to coordinate and provide creative,
challenging and innovative summer-fun programming.



Responsibilities include: oversight of the summer museum program,
implementation and development of curriculum, and evaluation and promotion
of the summer program. This position offers the opportunity to build upon a
very successful program, and with subject matter ranging from astronomy to
the arts and Egyptology, a vast range of intriguing educational and fun
projects.

- Superior written, interpersonal and public speaking skills
- Enjoys working with youth (1st – 5th grade)

Technologies (LLT) seeks an experienced librarian to provide dynamic

planning responsibilities for collection management functions, including
collection development, cataloging/metadata, acquisitions, serials and
e-resource licensing and management. In 2008/09, main Library collections

The Sylvia Gaither Garrison Library seeks an intern to serve as an
Archival Assistant.  The incumbent will assist with the arranging,
describing, cataloguing, and preserving of historical manuscripts and

photographs.  The incumbent must be proficient in Microsoft Word.
Experience in Past Perfect Museum software, library science, archival
science, or African American history is preferred.

The Archival Assistant will work approximately 20 hours per week during

the summer on a flexible schedule; the stipend is $2,500.00.

  OF CLASSIFICATION:* The purpose of this
  classification is to work on assignment from the Sr. Director Library
  Services to serve as a member of the financial team, conduct research,

  *ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS*:
  The
  following duties are normal for this position.  These are not to be

  or all-inclusive.  Other duties may be
  required and assigned. Conducts and evaluates research and its implications
  for major short-term and long-term Library planning purposes. Develops and
  prepares plans and reports for major Library projects; participates in
  Library Administration Team meetings. Researches topics affecting public
  libraries, especially KCPL, and developing pragmatic options to help move the
  Library forward. Analyzes demographics, statistical and other data for
  Library planning purposes. Works with management to ensure coordination of
  planning, research and budgeting. Serves as a member of the Library financial
  team to plan and monitor the annual budget. Monitors materials and database
  budget and provides regular expenditure reports. Answers questions from
  managers and gives advice on adjusting allocations. Finds creative solutions
  to making effective use of existing Library facilities and space. Coordinates
  efficiency studies for the improvement of Library Services. Coordinates
  institutional research information exchanges with other libraries.
  Researches, drafts and recommends Library policies. Oversees revision and
  updating of the Library’s policies and procedures manuals. Conducts, oversees
  and monitors Library online safety training to meet OSHA requirements and
  assists with library Risk Management issues.



  *ADDITIONAL JOB FUNCTIONS**:** *Serves as the
  Library’s representative to the Knox County Safety Committee and Chair of the
  Library’s Disaster Planning Committee. Responds to and reports immediately if
  called upon by local regional or central office supervisors, as part of a
  coordinated emergency response by the Knox County Department of Health.
  Performs other related duties as required.



  *MINIMUM TRAINING AND
  QUALIFICATIONS:* Master’s degree required in
  Library Science or Information Science; with six (6) years of experience;
  Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration desirable; or any equivalent
  combination of education, training, and experience, which provides the
  requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this position.
Knowledge of public libraries is
  preferred.  Requires excellent oral and
  written communication skills and skills in team building, leadership,
  organization, and decision-making.
  Must have ability to work successfully with internal and external
  customers in a large organization. Must possess strong communication
skills.  Must be proficient in Microsoft Office and
  other software programs. **



  *PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:*
  Must be physically able to operate a variety of office machines and equipment
  such as personal computer, printer, telephone, calculator, photocopier,
  postage meter, PC projector, or, fax machine.
