POSITION SUMMARY : The Librarian, under the general direction of the San Diego Library Director, works both as a reference librarian assisting students, faculty and staff with finding information they need through basic and specific reference sources in all subject areas, and also assists at the circulation desk. 

The successful candidate will be dedicated to providing high quality service to all constituencies of Alliant University. S/he will exhibit the highest professional standards and ethical principles and will be committed to the tenets of Alliant University’s Mission and Vision.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Reference services

§ Assist with reference and informational questions, in person, by email and over the telephone.

§ Demonstrate, instruct and promote information literacy via the use of Library Catalog, research databases and Internet, through group presentations and one-on-one interactions. 

§ Assist users with printer server and E-mail. 

§ Assist students in locating materials in other libraries through searches on LINK+, and other Orange County libraries.

§ Keep up-to-date on new or revised research databases.

 

  1. Circulation services

§ Check in/out books, dissertations, theses, psychological tests, etc.

§ Enter and update patron files in Millennium Circulation. 

§ Assist with Paging/Link+ shipments.

§ Assist faculty members and students with assessment materials and protocols.

§ Assist library users with reserve materials.

§ Design and update procedure manual.

 

  1.  Systemwide Interlibrary Loan

§ Use OCLC Interlibrary Loan and Millennium Interlibrary Loan to process interlibrary loan requests made by students at the Fresno, San Francisco, Los Angeles, and Sacramento campuses.

§ Communicate with the local interlibrary loan staff at each campus regarding requests that require more information or local follow through

 

  1. Alumni Liaison Librarian

§ Act as primary contact for Alliant alumni seeking library access or needing help with research

§ Monitor Alumni Library Registration Form for submissions, and create/update patron records as needed

 

POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

Master’s of Library Science or Master’s of Library and Information Science  from an American Library Association accredited institution

Prefer 1-2 years reference experience with online and print resources

mandate of the Stanford University Board of Trustees, the University Archivist is responsible for
the formulation, development, and administration of the Stanford University Archives and its
program for the collection, preservation, and use of historical archival and manuscript materials,

of the Stanford University community or retained in the University’s interest.

The Stanford University Libraries and Academic Information Resources (SULAIR) encompasses
a range of responsibilities and capacities for supporting academic uses of information and
information technologies by Stanford students, faculty, and researchers. SULAIR is unique in

academic computing services and support, university press publishing in digital and traditional

Specific responsibilities:

1. Formulate, direct, and administer collection development policy and program for archival and
manuscript collections pertaining to Stanford University and the Stanford family. Develop
collections including acquisition, funding, processing, preservation, and management of material.
2. Manage institutional information for President’s Office, Provost’s Office, Board of Trustees,
Office of Development, Planning Office, and Stanford Alumni Association under terms of
reference provided by these offices. Provide data from the University Archives critical for policy
decisions made by these offices.
3. Administer all public service related to the to access to and interpretation of the holdings of
University Archives, including instruction, reference, web presence, exhibits, reproduction
policies, and publications. Work with the Assistant University Librarian for Public Services to
integrate the services of the University Archives with broader library service programs.
4. Identify and cultivate donors with actual or potential interest in the Archives. Identify and
cultivate key faculty and staff members for acquisition of papers. Identify and cultivate
appropriate members of outside constituencies with connections to Stanford.
5. Formulate, direct, and administer policy and program related to administrative records
management, records transfer, and information retrieval. Insure preservation guidelines for
holdings maintenance, collections storage, exhibit, handling and reformatting are upheld.
Establish and administer policies on restrictions and access to records. Maintain regular contact
with University administrators.
6. Develop and conduct programs of digitization of appropriate holdings of the University
Archives.
7. Develop and maintain relationships with key University and University-related committees
including service on Board of Governors of the Hanna House, Historic Values Index Group,
Stanford Historical Society Board, and other committees as appropriate.
8. Coordinate and oversee the collection development, preservation, and management efforts of
all archival programs on campus including the Lane Medical Archives, Stanford Linear
Accelerator Archives, and Stanford Law School Library Archives.
9. Supervise University Archives staff and Stanford Historical Society staff including setting of
priorities, scheduling, monitoring workflow, and staff development. Develop and administer
volunteer program in the Archives.

Qualifications:

1. MLS or equivalent ALA accredited degree, with formal training in archival theory and
practice, required.
2. MA in History or related field, desired.
3. Knowledge of history of higher education, desired.
4. Knowledge of history of Stanford University, desired.
5. Ten years of professional experience and accomplishments with increasing responsibility in an
academic or research archive or library, desired.
