The Dalhousie School of Information Management (SIM) invites applications for a two-year term appointment at the Lecturer level commencing 1st July 2010.
The School offers two graduate programs and contributes to a collaboratively delivered undergraduate program. At the graduate level, SIM provides the American Library Association (ALA)-accredited Master of Library and Information Studies (MLIS) program and the mid-career external program Master of Information Management (MIM). At the undergraduate level, the School provides core and elective courses in the Bachelor of Management program, notably in the provision of the new Knowledge Management major.
The School is part of the interdisciplinary Faculty of Management, with the Schools of Business Administration, Public Administration, Resource and Environmental Studies, and the Marine Affairs Program. The Faculty of Management has a unique commitment to values-based management with a focus on sustainability and on getting things done. This position is co-funded by the School, the MIM program and Bachelor of Management program. Given this funding imperative, the successful candidate will have:
MLIS or equivalent degree from an accredited program
Professional experience in the private or public sectors as a qualified information professional
Experience teaching at the graduate level is preferred. Experience in undergraduate teaching, as well as with online tools and pedagogy, will be an asset
Prior experience of relevance for marketing the MIM program including strong presentation and negotiation skills will be important for the principal service contribution of this position.
Due to the MIM program requirements for this position, research experience relating to the private or public sector will be an asset
As the School’s strategic goals include continued accreditation of the MLIS program, the expectation is that the successful candidate will teach one or more required MLIS courses. Therefore, prior experience in teaching core courses in such a program will be an asset. The School’s strategic goals for the Bachelor of Management program include the launch of a Knowledge Management major and, therefore, background and experience relevant for delivering a core course in KM will be an asset. The successful applicant will have professional, research, or prior teaching experience relevant for teaching an elective course in the MIM program in one of the following three areas of need: Project Management, Collaboration, or Governance, Security and Privacy. Marketing of the MIM program in the private and public sectors is a required component of this position and will require some travel, notably to Ottawa and Toronto.
