The FHWA Freight Web Site (www.ops.fhwa.dot.gov/freight) was recently updated with several new resources.

Two new pages of useful information have been added:

·         Freight Disruptions: Impacts on Freight Movement from Natural and Man-Made Events - Natural and man-made events that occur both within the U.S. and globally have the potential to impact the supply chain and overall freight movement, with repercussions on the commerce and the economy. This page contains a selection of articles that discuss the freight impacts of the Gulf Coast Oil Spill and the Iceland Volcano Cloud.

·         Urban Goods Movement - As demand for freight transportation continues to rise at a disproportionate rate to freight system capacity, shippers and carriers must find new ways to navigate through urban areas and deliver goods on time and at low cost. This page provides links to case studies and other resources that share innovative solutions to urban goods movement issues.

The following resources are also now available:

·         Urban Freight Case Studies – FHWA developed the Urban Freight Cases Studies as a way to document notable practices in urban goods movement. These four case studies provide information on freight-related initiatives that mitigate congestion and improve the safety and efficiency of commercial vehicle travel in urban areas. The case studies focus on New York City, Los Angeles, Orlando, and Washington, DC.

·         Freight Performance Measures Web Based (FPMweb) Tool This tool, developed by FHWA and the American Transportation Research Institute (ATRI), measures operating speeds for trucks at any given place and point in time along 25 interstate highways that are considered significant freight routes. By accessing this system, transportation data analysts, researchers and other practitioners can determine where, when and how efficiently trucks are moving on selected interstate highways.
