TRB Senior Program Officer-Technical Activities Division This Senior Program Officer will work in the areas of intercity passenger rail, passenger rail equipment and systems integration, local and regional rail freight transport, railroad operating technologies, railroad track structure system design, railway maintenance, rail transit infrastructure; multimodal freight systems transportation including economics, regulation, planning, logistics, urban freight, and transport of hazardous materials; and motor carrier transport including trucking industry research and truck size and weight. Responsibilities include providing staff support to committees and the Rail Group and Freight Systems Group Executive Boards; arranging conferences, workshops and elements of the TRB Annual Meeting program; reviewing and processing reports and papers; traveling to state, local, and federal transportation departments, transportation-related industries, and universities to exchange information about problems and potential solutions and about current and proposed research programs; maintaining ongoing relationships with major TRB sponsors (including the Federal Railroad Administration, Association of American Railroads, American Transportation Research Institute, and the Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Safety Administration); developing new program areas; serving as liaison to Cooperative Research Programs, particularly those related to Freight and Hazardous Materials; responding to inquiries; and performing other related duties as assigned.
