The University of Tennessee (UT) Libraries invites applications for the
position of Instructional Services Librarian for Undergraduate Programs.
The successful candidate will join a team of librarians in the Integrated
User Services (IUS) Department. We are seeking an instruction librarian who
has a demonstrated commitment to teaching and guiding undergraduate students
using various pedagogies and innovative technologies.

The Integrated User Services department consists of:

§  Library Commons services as part of The Commons–a collaboration of the
Libraries and the Office of Information Technology

§  The Studio–a media production lab and consultation service

§  Instructional services

§  Media collections and services 

§  Circulation services and course reserves

This department provides undergraduate student programming, classroom
support, leadership involving emerging technologies and instructional
support for general education and student success.

 

Position Description: 

The Instructional Services Librarian for Undergraduate Programs provides
vision in the design and implementation of library instruction programs that
are integrated into the basic skills general education curriculum and other
lower division courses of study.  The librarian works closely with faculty
and undergraduate course instructors to explore new ways to achieve
desirable learning outcomes. Works in conjunction with the Instructional
Technology Librarian, campus IT staff, and library faculty and staff to
incorporate and apply technology to classroom instruction. Collaborates with
other librarians on instructional design related to undergraduate programs.
Joins all Commons staff to provide the highest quality information and user
education programs. Includes supervisory responsibility for one graduate
assistant.

 

Required Qualifications:  

ALA accredited master’s degree.  Demonstrated teaching experience which may
include instruction-related internships and graduate assistantships,
classroom teaching, and library or other instruction. An understanding of
and commitment to the philosophy behind the continuing evolution of a
learning commons.  Awareness of current trends in information literacy and
evaluation as well as an understanding of learning theory and its
integration into successful instructional technologies. Experience using web
technologies and knowledge of how they may be used in undergraduate
instruction. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.  Ability to
articulate the place of the library in the higher education curriculum and
to interact with faculty in a diplomatic and positive manner. Ability to
work effectively in a collaborative team environment accompanied by
initiative, self-direction, and commitment to innovation, creativity, and
excellence.  Commitment to research and creative achievement in a
tenure-track faculty position.

 

 

Preferred Qualifications:  Supervisory experience.

Salary and Benefits:

Appointment at rank of Assistant Professor at a salary of $44,000. Faculty
rank and status; twelve-month, tenure-track appointment. Library faculty
must meet University requirements for promotion and tenure. Excellent
benefits include 24 annual leave days; choice of state retirement plan or
TIAA/CREF with nonrefundable contributions paid for the employee by the
University; optional group health and life insurance plans. Tuition
remission is available for all university employees; partial undergraduate
tuition remission is available to dependent children and spouses of UT
employees.
