POSITION:  Director of Library Services for the Blue Ridge Regional
Library
DESCRIPTION:  Small town conveniences and exciting opportunities await a
visionary director of the Blue Ridge Regional Library located in the
city of
Martinsville, Virginia, which is near the two metropolitan areas of
Greensboro, NC, and Roanoke, VA. Outdoor recreational opportunities
abound
with the picturesque Blue Ridge Mountains and scenic Parkway. Our
library
system, an integral part of our rural community, serves the counties of
Henry and Patrick and the city of Martinsville with an estimated,
combined
population of 88,500.  There is a modern main branch, four satellite
branches, a renowned historical society building and a bookmobile. BRRL
has
a circulation of over 500,000 with a collection of 227,766.  The
director
supervises a staff of 23 full time and 22 part time employees. The
director
is responsible for the administration of all aspects of library services
and
reports directly to the appointed Board of Trustees.  Work involves
community and board relations, staffing, program development, and
strategic
planning. The ideal candidate will possess fund raising experience and
grant
writing skills, along with strong communication skills to motivate the
staff
and community. The director will be expected to interact regularly with
private, public and civic sectors of our community in charting the
future
course of the Blue Ridge Regional Library.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:  MLS from an ALA accredited school with a
minimum
of five years in a progressively responsible public library, including
at
least three years in a supervisory/managerial position. Applicant must
meet
requirements for professional certification with the Commonwealth of
Virginia.
SALARY RANGE:  $55,000-$75,000.  Excellent benefits package
