Description:

Advanced Resource Technologies, Inc. (ARTI) is currently recruiting for a Research Services Specialist in support of a contract with the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) at our Arlington, VA location. Position is full-time, non-exempt. Start date is immediate upon selection with 2 weeks notice to current employer.

SUMMARY

We are looking for a customer-oriented and motivated individual to join our Research Services team, in an entry level capacity, at our Arlington, VA location. The successful applicant will act as a point of contact for engineers and scientists, providing research support in a variety of cutting edge technology and defense areas.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to:

• Under direct supervision of Manager of Research Services, work on in-depth research requests that are primarily science or technology related.
• Conduct research using online subscription databases and journals including, but not limited to, ProQuest, EbscoHost, IEEE, and OCLC.
• Ability to search the Open Web and specialized websites for technical reports and information.
• Guide users in the use of relevant sources and provide one on one and/or group instruction.
• Proactively support the promotion of Research Services, including; producing a weekly news letter, conducting user interviews, and compiling usage data.
• Ability to search and submit requests for InterLibrary Loans.
• Procure articles, reports, and books on behalf of the researchers.
• Catalog acquisitions in the online library catalog.
• Perform daily tasks such as filing, scanning, sorting and distributing mail to office personnel, and assisting in new employee training on research resources.
• Work on special projects as assigned by the Manager of Research Services.

REQUIREMENTS

• BA or BS required and two years of experience in library, information services or non-scientific/lab research. MLS/MLIS degree with one year of work experience desired.
• Experience using an online library catalog system required.
• Must have library related research and web research experience.
• Experience responding to reference questions or research requests via electronic means required.
• Experience with an Inter Library Loan (ILL) system a plus.
• Experience organizing, managing and maintaining research project requests preferred.

Skills & Knowledge

• Experience with library research strategies and database searching including but not limited to OCLC, Dialog, Lexis/Nexis, EbscoHost and Proquest.
• Strong computer skills, including proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
• Ability to effectively complete multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.
• Customer-focused, self-motivated and able to adapt to changing priorities.
• Detail-oriented, with ability to consolidate research results into precise, concise responses.
• Must have strong interpersonal and written communications skills in order to effectively interact with personnel at all levels in a dynamic work environment.
• Must be able to work independently and in a team environment.
• Must possess analytical skills for problems solving and research.
