 Description: The Systems Librarian is responsible for the overall
management and support of the Millennium Library system and other library
applications. The position reports directly to the Manager, Library Systems,
of the Distributed *e*Library and coordinate closely with WCMC-Q ITS
department to implement all technology related tasks carried out on servers
residing on the College network.

*MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES*

   -  Administer the library's Millennium System (ILS Application).
   - Coordinate with WCMC-Q ITS department for upgrades, maintenance and
   customization of the Web and client interfaces of Millennium System and
   other supporting applications.
   - Analyze system usage, and generate system statistical reports for
   management.
   - Evaluate needs, create and deliver workshops in use of library software
   and instruction for students and staff. Provide instruction, training, and
   documentation to appropriate audience as needed
   - Work with WCMCQ-ITS to insure the integration and web accessibility of
   all library electronic resources.
   - Administer and support other library applications, including but not
   limited to the Ariel Document delivery system.
   - Supervise the senior library assistant(s).
   - Coordinate closely with counterparts in the WCMC-Q ITS department on
   assignments requiring ITS support.
   - Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications
 *III. POSITION REQUIREMENTS:*
* BA/BS in Computer Science (or related area) or the equivalent combination
of education and experience, a Masters Degree in Library and Information
Science is preferred.
* 5 or more years professional level experience managing library integrated
systems in a digital library environment, including the integration of
online resources and creative use of electronic resources for service
delivery is also required.
* Prior experience with Innovative Interfaces Inc.'s Millennium system is
preferred.


The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate the following
competencies:

   - Prior experience in managing on-line database connectivity-using tools
   such as Oracle, MySQL, ODBC drivers, DBMS, and PL/SQL.


   - Prior experience in web authoring using JAVA script, HTML, PHP and/or
   PERL


   - Previous project development and implementation experience


   - Prior experience using Metadata harvesting and Open URL


   - Prior experience producing statistical reports and data analysis using

Job Description
Manager E-Access/Qatar-12414

Description: Reporting to the Distributed eLibrary Director, this position
manages the Library's electronic access functions including: collection
management, acquisitions (print and electronic), cataloguing, and other
technical processing functions.
   The incumbent advises the Director on license negotiations and oversees
the consistent observance of all contractual undertakings and copyright law.
This position is also responsible for the maintenance of good relationships
with vendors and for ensuring the accuracy of records in the electronic
management system. The eAccess Manager works closely with other librarians
from within the Cornell system including Cornell University Library in
Ithaca and the Liaison Librarian at Weill Medical College in New York. Daily
responsibilities include the supervision of acquisitions, cataloguing, and
technical processing staff. As part of a four-person management team,
including a Director and two other managers, the eAccess Manager
participates in planning and budgeting activities with special emphasis on a
collection budget exceeding $1m. The incumbent is ultimately responsible for
enabling users to have seamless electronic access at any time to information
from a multiplicity of scholarly sources in medicine, the basic sciences,
and allied health sciences, whether held locally or accessible via the
Internet.

MAJOR RESPONIBILITIES:
* Supervises staff, exempt and non-exempt, in the eAccess Services
Department.
* Develops and implements policies pertaining to the Library's acquisition
of all types of resources and to technical processing and cataloguing.
* Develops and maintains sound relations with international and local
vendors of library materials, handling the eLibrary's business with them in
oral and written communications.
* In collaboration with the Director, negotiates and/or manages site
licenses for library resources, ensuring that relevant terms and conditions
are well publicized to Library staff and users to ensure knowledge and good
faith compliance by all concerned with all copyright and other legal
provisions.
*Assists the Director in managing budgetary resources, financial accounting
and accessioning processes pertaining to the procurement of library
materials.
*Maintains the relevant modules of the Millennium library system,
supervising staff that assist with record creation, ensuring integrity of
all data related to the acquisitions program and collaborating closely with
Library Systems staff on related technical matters.
*Coordinates collection development activities, including collection
analysis, and chairs the Library's Collections Development Committee,
collaborating closely with other professional staff and faculty members on
the selection of materials to be acquired.
*Determines appropriate mechanisms and benchmarks for evaluating the
effectiveness and efficiency of the Library's acquisition and technical
program.
*Prepares periodic reports on the Library's technical processing, including
acquisitions including statistical records for all eLibrary activities.
* Performs related duties as assigned by the Library Director.

Qualifications:

POSTION REQUIREMENTS:
Education: Masters degree in library and/or information science from an
ALA-accredited institution.
Experience: Qualifying work experience should include prior management
responsibilities with technical processing aspects of the library.
* It would be especially useful if the incumbent has prior experience
dealing with purchasing, financial transactions and controls; handling
orders and shipments, processing invoices and credit statements and
maintaining related automated record systems, including statistics, as well
as initiating oral and written communications and negotiating with vendors
and suppliers of goods and services and preparing reports.
*At least three years work experience in a medical library or in a health
science profession. Supervisory experience highly desired.
