POSITION SUMMARY                                                                                                                             

L.V. Johnson Library seeks an innovative, flexible and energetic Reference Librarian with a commitment to students. This 12-month, full-time position holds faculty status (non tenure track) as part of the core of instruction. It participates in the Reference Department’s daily operations; prepares bibliographies; delivers/teaches the newest trends in electronic access to information; and assists in managing outreach services. It assists in development and maintenance of the print reference collection. Also, assists in the selection and de-selection of online reference databases.

 

This entry level position is accountable to the Head of Reference. The Library operates under the Vice President for Academic Affairs. Ex Libris/Voyager; GIL and GALILEO database systems are utilized. For Johnson Library information, please visit online: http://www.spsu.edu/library/Info/

 

 

QUALIFICATIONS

A Masters' Degree in Library and Information Studies from an ALA accredited Library program is required. Holding a second Masters' or higher degree is an asset to the position and the University. Must have some experience in a library-related position. Entry level librarians with an interest in Reference are encouraged to apply. The position requires skill in preparing instructional content, teaching in the Bibliographic Instruction program; research skills for consultations with patrons using technology; ability to provide reference services; ability to supervise other employees; and excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

 

If selected as a finalist, the candidate will be invited for an on-site interview and should bring a Power Point presentation to demonstrate their teaching style, knowledge, and use of academic databases.
