Visitor Services Assistant

 

Temporary Position: 50 weeks

Hourly Rate: $9.00-$13.00/hr.

Location: Wauconda, IL

Duties include: staffing the admission desk and museum store; conducting monthly and year end inventories in the museum store; assisting with product selection, purchasing, and arranging store displays; conducting visitor evaluations; assisting with the planning and staffing of facility rentals; assisting with the planning and staffing of special events, artist receptions and exhibit openings. EXPERIENCE: 

Qualified applicants should have experience in museum visitor services. This could include experience: handling cash transactions, retail experience, event planning, or conducting visitor evaluation. Candidates should possess the customer service and communication skills necessary to provide a positive experience for the public, even during hectic environments.  Must possess valid driver’s license.

Overview of the position:
We are seeking a professional librarian to provide reference and information services to faculty, students, and other users and to assume responsibility for designated subject areas and liaison with assigned departments. This position will participate in the development and assessment of the library collections and be responsible for overseeing technical services assistants and local branch processing activities related to same. The Reference Librarian will maintain close liaison with Cataloguing, Serials and other technical service units to review current practices. The incumbent will collaborate with the Irving K. Barber Learning Centre regarding digitization projects and their use in the K-12 curriculum. Additionally, the Reference Librarian will provide web-based and classroom instruction and assistance in use of information resources. Planning and implementing services that respond to needs of our users are part of this position.  Participation in the development and re!
 view of library policy, procedures, and services; and adoption of responsibility for coordination and management of staff, services and projects may be required. This position will report to the Head, Education Library.

Terms of Appointment and Salary:
This position will be filled as a full time ongoing position. If eligible and qualified, the successful applicant may be appointed with a confirmed appointment. Otherwise, there will be an initial three-year probationary appointment.  Normally, such an appointment is reviewed by the end of the second year of appointment, and a recommendation is made at that time to grant or not to grant a confirmed appointment.

Salary will commensurate with experience and academic/professional qualifications.  Applications for this position are limited to those with up to 7 years of experience.

Historic Research Internship for the Montgomery County PA Department of Parks and Heritage Services (northwest of Philadelphia)

 

Unpaid internship working with senior historic site staff to compile documentation for the largest county park, Green Lane Park, which was created in the 1950s when a reservoir was built.  Intern will coordinate historical information and look for maps, photographs, and documentation at local historical resources for the people and businesses that were in the area before the reservoir was built to develop interpretation/display material.  May involve oral histories.  Will involve travel within the county.

 

Number of hours and days of the week flexible, but would like a commitment for at least 150 hours.  Prior experience with historical research a plus, but not necessary.
