TMG Training Project in more detail
TMG Training Project Team Request

Date: May 10, 2010
Project Leader: Beth Babbit [log in to unmask]">[log in to unmask] (865) 974-7970

If you would like to offering your assistance, expertise and thoughts on making the TMG training program more effective please complete the survey below in a reply message.

The TMG handbook revisions and support materials are in final review stages and will be released sometime next year. TMG will be well positioned to unify all training materials. As TMG training project team members, you are encouraged to scrutinize current training program and visualize an ideal TMG volunteer training program. Our team will need to proactively communicate ideas to incorporate the four goals (below) as cornerstone for the foundation of the new TMG training program.

We would like all parts TMG training builds upon each other. There is a distinct purpose for each type (or level) of educational training in TMG. It will be our objective to define these levels, create a flow from one level to the next and insure the integrity of each.

The TMG Training Project has four main goals:
1.    Intern Training (this includes: handbook, presentations, lesson plans, evaluation materials).

2.    Educator Training (Training the MG and Agent to host and effectively training new MG interns and transfers).

3.    Continued Education Training (define the types of training and offer alternatives to local CE opportunities).

4.    Advanced Master Gardener Training (define the certification and management (i.e. county agent vs state committee), identify creditable training resources, etc.).

What are the next steps?
1.    Complete the attached survey. (Reply by May 24, 2010)

2.    Share and review the work plans. Identify members to lead specific goals.

3.    Document ideas, communicate and set goals.

4.    Outline final strategies.

5.    Propose to final strategies to UT Admin (Regional Ag program leaders and Assistant Dean).

6.    Implement strategies.

Work plans will describe each goal by providing current status and information. As a team we will start by the process by identifying needs, describing constraints/problems and clarifying the vision. We will do this in a document called a work plan. Each goal has its own work plan.  I would like to support members who wish to become leaders of certain goals to direct the collection of ideas, recommendations and facilitation of outcomes.

Thanks you all for your contributions, I look forward to hearing your ideas and suggestions.

Sincerely,
Beth
