INTRODUCTION
New Research in Information Behaviour, co-edited by Professor Amanda Spink and Dr. Jannica Heinstrom seeks to provide an understanding of the new directions,
leading edge theories and models in information behaviour. Information behaviour is conceptualized as complex information processes that are embedded within an individual’s everyday social and life context.
The book seeks to present chapters by a range of scholars who show new research directions that often challenge the established views and paradigms of information behaviour studies. Beginning with
an evolutionary framework, the book seeks to build our understanding of information behaviours from pre-literate societies to contemporary behaviours by 21st century humans. Drawing upon information behaviour, social and behavioural science theories
the book seeks to present a more integrated and holistic approach understanding of information behaviours that include, but are not limited to, the cognitive and personality aspects of information behaviour, longitudinal processes, individuals’ information
ground, information practices and information sharing, digital behaviours and information use and organizing behaviours. The Editors will also write an introductory chapter to provide an overview of the field and a conclusion and further research
chapter to integrate the new research approaches and presents overview of the key trends, theories and models for further research.
High quality and scholarly book chapters are sought on any aspects of information behaviour, including theoretical and empirical studies, models or theories related to specific aspects of information
behaviour, including information foraging, sense-making, seeking, use, organising, everyday life information behaviour, etc.
SUBMISSION INFORMATION
Potential contributors are invited to submit an abstract or a 1-2 page chapter proposal to the Editors ASAP, detailing the background, motivations and structure of the proposed chapter. Authors will
be notified in short order as to the status of their proposal and sent organizational guidelines. Full chapters should be at least 8,000-9,000 words in length and are due by October 1, 2010. Final revised manuscripts are due on December 1, 2010.
