The Department of Library and Information Studies at the University of North Carolina (UNCG) is honored to announce the addition of Dr. Fatih Oguz to our faculty as an Assistant Professor, beginning in August 2010. He will have primary teaching responsibilities in the area of information technologies. Dr. Oguz received his Ph.D. in Information Science from the University of North Texas in 2007 and holds an M.B.A. from Yeditepe University in Turkey. His doctoral research focused on the impact of communities of practice as informal communication mechanisms on technology adoption decisions in digital libraries. He has served as an Assistant Professor in the Master of Library and Information Science Program at Valdosta State University since 2006. His current research is in the areas of diffusion of innovations, communities of practice, digital libraries, information architecture, Web 2.0 technologies, and XML-based Web services. He has presented his research in national and international conferences.
Dr. Oguz has presented his research at ASIS&T, other national and international conferences. He is a recipient of several grants. He currently represents Valdosta State University in a 3-year Institute of Museum and Library Services Grant ($857,005): The GALILEO Knowledge Repository: Advancing the Access and Management of Scholarly Digital Content. This project is a statewide initiative with institutions, including the University of Georgia, Georgia Tech, and Georgia State University to build, test, and launch a replicable collaborative institutional repository model.
